Is the Recommendation Not to Use the Debian network-manager-openvpn Package Still Valid?

Due to recent issues I've had with Eddie, I want to have a fall-back in place so that I still can use the AirVPN service.  I went to the page regarding setup with the Debian network-manager-openvpn package and there's a banner stating that it's not recommended.  Is this still the case?  It looks like that page hasn't been updated in over a year.

Offhand I don't know.

 

However you can always just open a terminal and paste in.

sudo openvpn /home/path/to/your/file/AirVPN_Someserver_Somewhere.ovpn

 

Then after a reboot you only really need to open a terminal and hit up arrow / enter and you're connected.

How do you start it when the system is booting so there is no terminal window open while connected?

 

I'd like to manually setup network lock which is covered in another thread and then have the su -c openvpn file.ovn start on boot.

The "network lock" is in the Eddie client.

If you're using standard openvpn and not the eddie client you'll need to manually make the iptable rules.

As for starting openvpn at boot try searching startpage for: "your os here" start openvpn at boot

There's tons of guides on the subject.

 

If you simply want to hide the terminal that's possible with the Terminator terminal "and possibly others". I think F12 hides it from the panel/taskbar by default.
