Routing utorrent/qBitorrent OUTSIDE VPN

Recommended Posts

Hello. Is it possible for me to route the utorrent or qbitorrent client outside of the VPN, so when I am downloading I will be able to get full speeds?

Where I live, torrent sites are blocked. So to access them I use the VPN. My ISP doesn't care about torrenting and was one of the last to agree to block torrent sites when the labels won in court. So actually downloading the torrents on my real IP will not cause me any problems. I just need the VPN to access KAT, TPB etc. and would like to have my torrent program running outside the VPN to get full speeds after downloading the .torrent file.

I've gone in to preferences > routes, but I am not sure if what I want is even possible. Does the torrent client even have a IP/hostname that I can enter here?

Thanks.

First, the only place you should route uTorrent is to the trash can.

Regarding qBittorrent, the task is actually quite easy, all you have to do is to select

your primary network adapter in the advanced settings, and not the VPN adapter.

Also, if you are using the Eddie client, make sure you don't have the "Network Lock" on.

This screenshot is from OS X, so just find the corresponding adapter in your OS.

That was simple! I feel stupid for not seeing that after being in the advanced section.

Thanks for your help!

(PS: I only use qBitorrent, only mentioned uTorrent in case someone knew how to do it with that )
