Hi,

I guess my real IP is leaked. I am in the Netherlands and I want to use a German VPN.

When I check my IP all seems fine. But all the ads and google+1 is in Dutch!? (See attached image.)

ipleaks.net and dnsleaktest.com don't show that leak.

I use OpenVPN and update-resolv-conf and I also added following line to the ovpn (for which I used the generator):

script-security 2
up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf

I deleted all cookies, cache, and flashcookies.

How does google for example know my real location?

Is your browser in dutch?

In Firefox:

general.useragent.locale is en-US

media.peerconnection.enabled is false (just in case)

In my linux I also use en-US, and never used a different setup.

Thanks for you replies, but after deleting that pref cookie I still have the same problem. They display the google+1 text in Dutch and the other ads as well.

I just realized, when I want to see a video that is not available to users outside of Germany on spiegel.tv (e.g. http://www.spiegel.tv/filme/bbc-wahrheit-fett/) then I get: "This video is not available in your country. Sorry."

But with a German IP I should be able to see it...

I tested several sites that show my IP and I used all leak test I could find, and all tell me that I have a German IP and leak.

I really don't understand what is going wrong here!?

I use OpenVPN and I use the config file that was generated by AirVPN (I tried already all of the German servers).

I posted this some time ago, too, as I, well, use german servers only. I also contacted Staff about this, they said it's Google's fault.

The first three German servers that were available when I first registered here (Aquilae, Tauri, Velorum) are usually not prone to this. Connect to one of them and try again.

Or maybe Google thinks all European Leaseweb servers are in Netherlands.

That may be very right, by the way. According to bgp.he.net, the german AS number of LeaseWeb hasn't been seen since February. If I connect to LeaseWeb, it's routing me through the Dutch AS. Also, my ISP doesn't have a route to the german LeaseWeb anymore, it's directly connected to LeaseWeb B.V.

Even with them I still have the same problem :/

It seems so.. I am using OpenVPN with the config file, and as long as there is no bug or whatever might lead to a leak then I guess this is the only option. But interesteningly not only google thinks I am in the Netherlands, also spiegel.tv thinks I am not in Germany (I cannot find out where they think I am though). But when trying different leak test shows me always that I am in Germany.

To summarize, there are only two possibilities issues:

Either (1) google and spiegel.tv thing that the LeaseWeb IPs are Dutch or (2) OpenVPN leaks my real IP (and the leak tests are not showing this)!?

I rather think it might be issue 1.
