CentOS and Connecting to AirVPN via Terminal setup?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

     I am fairly new to AirVPN and wanted to see if my inital setup works.  Following the steps laid out here https://airvpn.org/topic/11431-using-airvpn-with-linux-from-terminal/, I was wondering if I am missing anything else?  At the moment, I just want to verify that my traffic is being encrypted correctly.

My setup for this machine is pretty basic.

ifcfg-eth* has it set for the following:

BOOTPROTO=static

NM_CONTROLLED=no

IPADDR=x.x.x.x

NETMASK=x.x.x.x

GW=x.x.x.x

DNS1=10.5.0.1

DNS2=208.67.222.222

PEERDNS=yes

resolv.conf has no entries generated from my DHCP server

IPtables enabled with defaults

Using TCP 443 to connect to AirVPN servers specified in the config.

After running: # openvpn foo.opvn (using foo.opvn as the example config file)  I go to ipchicken to verify that my external IP is that of AirVPN exit node.

Also checked for any DNS leaks from

ipleak.net

dnsleaktest.com

None of my ISP DNS servers were detected.

Is there anything else that I may be missing to ensure that my traffic is being encrypted correctly?

I have also noticed that connecting to the AirVPN servers do not require me to enter any credentials?  I have a a OpenVPN server setup to connect to my home network and I require it to use credentials.  Am I still secure without this ability to credentialize when connecting to the AirVPN servers?

Thank you.
