Question about dropped connection through ddwrt

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have successfully set up Air to run through my router and also got the firewall commands to work! One question I have is when I log into this site and check my details, I see that the server disconnects then reconnects randomly. Every few hours, sometimes even 12 hours. Isn't it supposed to stay always connected this way, or is this done to purge any information that was collected about the user? Thanks!

Hello!

It is supposed to remain always connected. Maybe connection drops?

Please note that every 60 minutes the TLS keys are re-negotiated with overlapping windows, this has nothing to do with disconnections, the connection remains alive and there's no overhead, just make sure that you're not mixing two different circumstances.

Kind regards

What connection drops? The VPN connection? Before this setup I used the client in Windows and very very rarely had a disconnection.

If it were the TLS keys, wouldn't it show the disconnects roughly the same time hour by hour?

This hasn't affected my browsing at all and it only does it while I am away for some reason. It hasn't happened yet while I was at my computer. It's not a big deal because I have the firewall set up to drop all traffic when it disconnects, but it is weird. Thanks.

Hello!

Yes, weren't you talking about that?

No, keys re-negotiation are not displayed as a disconnection in the logs, just as a TLS: soft-reset.

Excellent. Maybe just a temporary issue. Do you note any unusual amount of "Replay-window backtrack occurred" entries in the logs?

Kind regards

Yes I was talking about that. Sorry, misunderstanding haha. How do I access the log?

Hello!

Which client or OpenVPN wrapper are you running?

Kind regards

Okay I didn't figure it out.

It's been dropping all night while I was asleep and just dropped 30 minutes before I got up. I have no idea what a "wrapper" is though and every time I try and access the logs through the status - openvpn tabs in my router settings it just times out.

Hello!

Can you please try a connection (at least one hour long if possible) directly from one of your computers in order to see whether the instability is due to the DD-WRT router OpenVPN client or not?

Kind regards

Okay. I stayed connected with the Windows Air client for a good 5 hours without a disconnection. It must be something with the router and openvpn within it, but I don't know!

Hello!

Might it be possible that (for any reason) your ISP re-assigns your node with a new IP address every 12 hours?

Kind regards

I'm not sure. My actual IP address from my ISP never changes. The 5 numbers at the end of my IP change on the details page though.
