Connect at boot on Android without a master password?

Recommended Posts

How am I supposed to have the app connect at boot on Android when it won't let me save credentials without a master password that I have to enter every time?  It's completely nonsensical to require this for everyone.  I'm fine with it being an option if I want it, but I don't, and I can't figure out how to bypass it.

A design flaw, indeed. Nevertheless, briefly answered in the Eddie 2.0 announcement thread.

Hello!

You can autostart Eddie at device boot ONLY through an imported profile.

Please consider that it's Android which decides when to launch autostart registered application, and that will normally happen even after the connection to some network is active, so you will have regular leaks. You might consider to disable any connectivity before shutting down the device to mitigate the issue, and bring networking back up only when bootstrap has finished.

Therefore, a manual intervention is needed in any case.

Master Password is not considered by us a design flaw but a key security feature, especially in devices which are more prone to be stolen or lost around.

Kind regards

Master Password is not a design flaw, no, but if you don't catch the exception that people will want to connect to an AirVPN server while MP is active by displaying a warning or so then it is a flaw because it generates threads like this one.

Master Password is not considered by us a design flaw but a key security feature, especially in devices which are more prone to be stolen or lost around.

But if that's the case, why not just make it so that if we close out the app, we have to relogin using our AirVPN username and password? This way, for those devices prone to being stolen, the user can choose to enable that option. This would also allow the option to connect to AirVPN at start up.

I appreciate the concern about our privacy, and for what its worth I really do like Eddie for Android, but I feel there's a line between user security and user hostility, and the master password, at least in my opinion, crosses that line.
