eddie and linux mint v19 problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all.
I have a potential problem.
I have setup a new Linux Mint (64bit) v19 inside VirtualBox.
Installed latest stable eddie v2.15.2 and when I go and connect to any server I can see (and later in the log also) that there is some kind of strange
issue happening every time. just once during connecting and than the connection works great as usual. no leaks detected thrue ipleak.net.

this is a few lines arround the one I'm concerned about:

...
. 2018.08.13 08:50:40 - Certification Authorities: /usr/share/eddie-ui/cacert.pem
W 2018.08.13 08:50:40 - Recovery. Unexpected crash?
! 2018.08.13 08:50:40 - Deactivation of Network Lock
! 2018.08.13 08:50:41 - Activation of Network Lock - Linux iptables
. 2018.08.13 08:50:41 - Updating systems & servers data ...
. 2018.08.13 08:50:50 - Systems & servers data update completed
I 2018.08.13 08:50:50 - Ready
I 2018.08.13 08:50:55 - Session starting.
I 2018.08.13 08:50:55 - Checking authorization ...
! 2018.08.13 08:50:56 - Connecting to........

this "Recovery. Unexpected crash?" is what get's me woried. it looks like for some reason it deactivates and then again activates network
lock. maybe someting to do with firewall. I did activate the firewall during mint setup and my incoming where disabled when check with "sudo ufw status verbose" but  after eddie install and run on startup when I check FW is on disabled? inside eddie under network lock/mode it's set on default (auto).

in my old linux mint v17 I have eddie setup the same and when I check FW with "sudo ufw status verbose" it's always on "active".

eddie is setup thru Startup Applications to run on startup (I used "/usr/bin/eddie-ui" under command, is this ok?). also network lock is setup to
activate at startup of eddie.

any advice and steps I should take? It's probably something I did because I'm a linux newbie. I can use it using various guides posted around but can't configure/setup without.

thanks.

thanks so much for the link. I wasn't aware of this bug.

regarding this issue could it pose some security risk or this shouldn't be?

on a different thing, I don't understand why eddie disables my FW when run. is this normal and I shouldn't be concerned?

the old versions under Mint v17.x didn't do this.

It happens only when you start Eddie, doesn't it? Since, network lock is only active if Eddie is running this shouldn't be a big deal if I understand correctly. The error message hints at a unfinished/unclean exit procedure (likely a bug). I guess that's why network lock is at first disabled before activating it again properly.
