Last year, I paid for a three year subscription to NordVPN because it said it didn't ahdere to the 14 or 5 eyes policies and was based in Panama. Now after reading all of this... I have done a lot of sensitive stuff using NordVPN.

What do I do now, besides switch VPNs?

yup..... no reason to use nord at this point. I am very hesitant to trust most of the big names out there. They sell speed and server saturation, not security. In that they are not unlike the vast majority of home router producers, who do nothing to secure their users. Arris, Belkin, Netgear, etc.

Tried them a few months ago, set a record for shortest time installed, four hours, maybe?  Their client is very basic and has ads for others services they're constantly trying to upsell.  Seemed fast, browing with no VPN is fast, too, big deal.  Didn't trust them.  Paid for a month, asked for a refund the same day I subscribed and they apparently didn't like my reasons.  Had to tell them my reasoning was sufficient, give me a refund or my card company will.  They did.

NordVPN is a shady company and there are better alternatives to them, here's why.

The first major reason to avoid Nord VPN particularly if your computer has been compromised is that they have a history of disregarding their customers' security in favor of providing services. Most prominently, they intercepted the web traffic of their customers by redirecting it through an affiliate company who then injected ads onto the pages. They also "confirmed" this activity was done with regularity by stating on their own network for nine days in 2013 that all orders would be doubled and that a list of coupons would be provided ahead of time so there was no need to visit third party providers.

I'd never use NordVPN based on how much I see them advertised by every single youtuber (so thankful that we can skip forward :P). I also believe that not a single one of them actually understand VPNs and use it to make money from their affiliate links.
Can't say I'm surprised to read what's happening in all these posts.
AirVPN has been great for me. First joined in 2015 (weird that  this is my first post in all that time. soz.).
