Add a VPN Option in Windows 10 Settings?.

I have been using AirVPN with first Win7 and now Win10 creators update for around 3 or so years now with very few problems and even then only minor ones so I thought I would ask here first as I am a firm believer in leaving well enough alone. However I also want to use my PC and its contents to maximum performance for want of a better word.

 

While looking through the settings in Windows 10 I have seen the "Add a VPN" option there previously but have never enquired as to what this is for as I run AirVPN as an independent install. My question is what is the add a VPN option in Win10 for, and would it give me a better or worse performance than the way I have used AirVPN up until now if anyone understands what I mean?.

It's a built in VPN client that uses the built in Windows VPN platform.  It doesn't natively support Open VPN but your 3rd party client can be configured to work by entering the needed parameters in: Settings> Network and Internet> VPN.  I can't see much point in configuring a 3rd party VPN that way since the Windows VPN platform apparently is bypassed; it's much easier to just install the 3rd party client (Eddie.)

 

I'm not a security expert by any means but the Windows VPN is less secure than VPN's using Open VPN; probably not the best for internet use.  Some links:

Since Eddie set up is easy, I haven't searched the forums here to see how Air might be installed using the Windows VPN interface but here's how windscribe does it:

Other VPN's are similar; complicated, unnecessary since their clients install without Win VPN and likely to be forgotten if there's an issue.

 

I have not used the Windows VPN feature but do use Air, windscribe and mullvad.  Air gives the fastest connections most often for my location. I get over 90% speed vs. no VPN most of the time.  The other two services are hit and miss.  An excellent speed indicator site is:
