Can't log in, but still works....

If I just enter my login and password, and click login,  it won't connect.  If I leave my login and password in the fields,  and click connect to recommended server,  it connects,  and then I can change to any other server I like.  Same behavior under both windows and linux.  Is this normal?

No, it's not good. I have the same thing. When the IP address of your location falls into the black list.
