403 Forbidden (nginx)

Hi,

 

I have been using AirVPN for a few months and find it very good. But.........

 

Just recently however I have been getting the 403 Forbidden (nginx) error when attempting to open some websites (news and weather).

 

According to some that I have spoken to, some websites actually block the usage of VPN's and throw up errors such as this.

 

I have had a look around the web regarding the issue, to find a fix, which there are a few but they relate to Servers and my laptop is not a Server and I do not appear to have an etc/nginx/conf file anywhere on my machine that I can edit.

 

This is puzzling.

 

I can live with it, but it is sometimes irritating having to disconnect my VPN for local weather or news.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

 

If You use "fancy" router and DD-WRT or Tomato

 

then:

 

1. nslookup command in WIndows DOS + website address ie:  nslookup bbc.co.uk

2. Getting ip lets say  91.195.49.243 

3. Firawall rule in router:

 

ip route add 91.195.49.243 via $(nvram get wan_gateway)

 

Job done, every time You visit BBC You use Your ISP not VPN

 

If You dont use fancy router..... hmmmm It could be not easy to fix it...

just for readers' information, you can route specific IP addresses outside the VPN tunnel with Eddie, the Air client software, as well.

Unfortunately, my router is not anything that I would want to start meddling with at the present.

I am unsure it would accept Tomato or any other alternative firmware, it is pretty much a basic affair.

But, it is something I have looked into and may well consider it at a later date, when solvency permits.

I did not know this   previous well known VPN providers I have used had no  feature like this... which is one of MANY reasons why I use Router - not software, not to mention their software DRAINS PC/Laptop`s CPU and memory(!!!)

I dont think you need to add a new rule on router level.  Adding a new rule on system level can bypass the VPN rules by being more specific.

Depends method they use to detect VPN

but try to change  mssfix  value to 1250 or 1280  ...
