Some questions about using AirVPN

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

im still pretty new to the VPN stuff and got a 3 month sub with AirVPN now.

my question is: Is it enough to use the VPN client to be "safe"? is my real IP hidden and cant be found/tracked if im using the client while im surfing in the internet?

i was reading that i have to disable some stuff in my browser (im using Firefox) or my real IP can still be showing up, regardless of using a VPN.

i was told to disable WebRTC (what i did) and JavaScript (what is kinda stupid because then i cant use a lot of websites since it requires JavaScript to work).

is that true? do i need to disable them to be safe?

and do i need to disable other stuff too?

thanks for reading!

I use "Disable WebRTC" and "No Script" extension in firefox.I disable java script only for some website which I don't trust and also when using email (gmail).

goto www.ipleak.net to check if you leaking DNS or webrtc status

First of all: you are not safe. AirVPN does not improve the security of your computer.

Now that I've scared you:

- Which client are you using?

- Your ISP IP is "hidden" from all the websites and services you view while connected to the internet. Additionally, everything you do while connected is difficult to comprehend for your ISP and everyone between your client and the server. It does not imply that your IP cannot be found, you simply make it more difficult for attackers.

- WebRTC: It's true. While being a genuinely useful feature, WebRTC poses a risk for those behind a VPN. Disabling is recommended.

- JavaScript: It's such a common thing you have to expend effort to make a website without any JavaScript. Disabling it will catapult you back into the stone age of the web, more or less. Addons such as NoScript aid in managing JavaScript execution from sites you view, but it's an advanced addon which will most certainly break sites if you don't know what you're doing.

- Look into HTML5 geolocation and disable this to improve your, let's call it, "privacy rating".
