OpenVPN for Android Configurations

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently just purchased a year of AirVPN and am wondering about using the OpenVPN for Android client. (dunno if I should use OpenVPN Client, not quite sure the benefit of tap over tun)

Previously I had used a different vpn that had their own built in client on android so I didn't have to worry about setting up configs.

I'm purely just using AirVPN to encrypt my data over public/work wifi, nothing extravagant or complex. Anonymity is low priority but security is high.

I guess my biggest question is do I need to check "IPv4/IPv6, Use Default Route - redirects all traffic over the VPN"  under the config files.

If someone can provide a quick rundown of the maybe the more optimal config selections for my case, it would be highly appreciated.

thank you!

Personally, i always use SSL 443 as depicted here

It's the most likely to get through any blocks, and it's the least likely to attract attention when you are using it, at least compared to a normal OpenVPN connection.

In my options, i do the same as you with the 1pv4/ipv6 route over tunnel options checked, as well as deselecting the bypass VPN for local network option, since i don't need to access other devices on public wifi, and they certainly shouldn't be accessing my device.

Ohh, awesome I never thought about using SSL.

Do you know why when I press the client area, it only shows 1 connection? I have it set up on my phone and desktop, but it only ever shows 1 session even though i'm connected to two different servers.

I don't know, I'm having the same problem, I have my desktop and my mobile phone connected to the VPN. It will either show one device connected or no devices connected at all.
