Urgent help with network lock and port forwarding for utorrent?

Recommended Posts

I have some questions about network lock and how to get the utorrent port opened safely. Been reading the forum, faq and havent found anyone with my issue.

My process is:

I start eddie and connect with network lock enabled.

When I start utorrent I get a popup window asking if I want to allow utorrent in windows firewall.

What should I press here?

If I dont add utorrent as exception in windows firewall I will fail the port forwarding test in the client area. Add utorrent as exception it works instantly (green light in client area).

I have the port forwarded in client area and using the same port in utorrent. No ports forwarded on my router, no upnp etc etc. I guess it wouldnt work even with exception if I didnt set it up correctly.

Is it safe to add utorrent as an exception in windows firewall or does that defeat the entire purpose of network lock? Anything else I can do to get the port forwarded?

It does not fiddle with any Network Lock settings. It's an application-type exception so that uTorrent alone may use any port. I think the security feature is here to prevent untrusted programs from establishing outbound connections. So that malware shouldn't be able to call home for instance.

It's safe. And no, you don't have to do anything else.
