Any way to automatically connect to fastest server/increase speed?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Without AirVPN I get 3.0 MB/s. With, I try connecting to the closest geographical locations and it seems no matter what time of day, I get about 1.0 MB/s. I set up Comodo as instructed, no leaks.

I am testing the speed not with speedtest.net but by a high-speed server that I test by downloading useless files.

I THINK my stuff is set up to use whichever is faster, UDP or whatever. I can't remember if I have set this up correctly. I have been assuming for the past year that if you're going to connect through a VPN you are going to lose speed no matter what.

Is this true or is there something I could be doing to get nearly equivalent speeds? I realize it depends on server usage, but mine is never over like 25%. I'd like to leave it on at all times if possible.

Thanks!

Sorry for the long delay, I got a new computer. Still really slow. Where do I try different ports? I don't need to use the OpenVPN config, right, because I have the airvpn client?

So I tried downloading the OpenVPN files using UDP 53. Then I used OpenVPN gui. Same speeds, around 1.6Mb/s. I messed around with various servers closer to me, no change. Finally, I changed the Comodo Firewall rule from:

Block and Log IP In/Out from MAC to MAC any where protocol is any

To Allow and Log IP In/Out from MAC to MAC any where protocol is any

Now, in the past if I didn't block it, I would get DNS leaks all over the place, as evidenced by dnsleaktest. But now, I do not get any leaks if I change it to Allow, and I get much faster speeds (~16Mb/s).

That's still much slower than my actual connection, of course, but if I'm not getting DNS leaks I'll take it. Is dnsleaktest.com 100% right that I have no leaks? I tried refreshing the page.
