Poor speeds when using VPN - All US servers.

Recommended Posts

I started noticing speed reductions after switching over to DD-WRT/OpenVPN so I went back to my old setup, running OpenVPN on the PC and disabling it at the router. My speeds were still slow. I tried six different US servers and never found any real improvement. The best result was found on Pollux and here is my results there.

Down: 4.189 Mbit/s Out, 0.752 Mbit/s In (17%), 10MB
- Up: 1.808 Mbit/s Out, 0.819 Mbit/s In (45%), 10MB
- Date: Tue, 24 Sep 2013 17:30:26 GMT - Buffers: 10MB/10MB
- Laps: 1, Time: 276.28 secs

The above test was done using the NEW speed test. (UDP 443)

With VPN (Using Pollux - Jacksonville FL) - Old Speed test.
Down 4.85mb/s - Up 2.57mb/s (UDP 443)

Without VPN - (Using Speedtest.net and the server in Jacksonville FL)
Down 19.94mb/s - Up 2.84mb/s

I used to get closer to 10mb/s +/- when using the VPN.
Any suggestions? I have a 24/3 connection via AT&T Uverse.

Regards,
