  1. my qsmarter stopped working on all uk servers :( tcp connection...router will not connect, unless UDP
  2. Since 3-4 days ago whenever I try to connect to any server while using default settings or any other UDP protocol (tried quite few ports) progress gets stuck on IPv4 route check and eventually disconnects after 2nd try. Sometimes it rarely does connect but it is abnormally slow, I can't even load google homepage. TCP and SSH still works nominally. Pretty sure it has something to do with my ISP ( Turkey, TTNET ) as I can still use UDP with another ISP on the same computer. Trying to find out if anyone else reported the same issue on my ISP and if there is anything I can do to circumvent the problem on my end.
  3. Description: Sometimes i use the Linux Eddie App to connect to AirVPN. Strangely I cant connect under different Mint versions to Air s server when Auto/or UDP protocol is ticked .... And yes, I read about being stuck on "checking DNS or route" (which happens to me using UDP) as well I tinkered around with the Routing option integrated in Eddie s App. As soon as I stop using UDP I am able to connect independently what the other Eddie settings are ... Can anyone explain why this is??? Tx in advance
  4. Hi, I'm trying to use a NetGear R6300v1 as a VPN Router with the latest DD-WRT build I could find (dd-wrt.v24-36330_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-R6300). I can establish a TCP/443 connection to AirVPN (using DE or NL servers) and everything is fine in my opinion: There seem to be no DNS leaks and when the VPN goes down the R6300v1 stops traffic over the WAN interface, just as I want it to. With my 100/40 MBit/s NetCologne DSL @ home I see about 15/13 MBit/s VPN Performance on the R6300v1 with TCP, I have not yet seen more than 30% CPU usage on the R6300v1 during Speedtests. Streaming 1080p YouTube videos in a browser window on a PC connected via LAN to the R6300v1 the CPU usage stays below 15%. Streaming 4K video to an iPad connected via 5 GHz WLAN results in 25% to 35% CPU usage on the R6300v1. This is using a TCP connection - I wonder if UDP would give me more performance and if I should strive further to get that up and running? My problem is: With the very same settings - AFAIK I don't have anything TCP exclusive in there - just switching to UDP for connecting to AirVPN I cannot browse anything anymore. DNS resolution still works with UDP, I can ping for example www.heise.de both in Windows and via SSH directly on the R6300v1, I just cannot browse to www.heise.de. On a sidenote, the same is true if I use 'OpenVPN connect' on an iPad (iOS 11.4.1) - when I generate a .ovpn config for TCP/443 to German servers all is well, same config just with UDP/443 not so much on the iPad, too. On a second sidenote, I can get the latest Tomato build I could find for the R6300v1 (tomato-Netgear-R6300V1_RT-AC6x--140-AIO-64K) to do the same and have the same UDP issue as with the DD-WRT load ... I settled for DD-WRT for now because it seems to me the hardware support, especially WLAN AC, is better in the more recent DD-WRT build I'm using. I think I'm either missing something obvious or UDP simply cannot work on the R6300v1 (and an iPad). If anybody has an idea what I should try differently with the settings, I'd very much appreciate the information. Thanks in advance, Kyle
  5. Heya, first post on the forum. So, I always had issues while connecting with the UDP protocol. It always ended up with a: curl: (28) Operation timed out after 20000 milliseconds with 0 out of 0 bytes received Unfortunately I didn't find many posts about how to solve the problem or what may be the cause. Except for one post that said it had to with the MTU (Maximum transmission unit). I don't know the exact cause since I don't know a lot about networking. Maybe there is a better solution, if there is I'm more than happy to edit the post. Keep in mind that it helped me and may not help you, but it's always worth a shot. ------------------------------------------------------------ Windows ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. We want to find out what our current MTU is, most likely 1500 but it's always good to know what the default value is. 2. For this, we need to go into: Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Centre > Change adapter settings You're looking for the Tap-Windows Adapter (example included in hyperlink). You need the name for later which is my example, just "VPN" 3. Open cmd as an admin 4. Type netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "YourInterfaceName" mtu=1200 store=persistent 5. And you're done! Try connecting to AirVPN with UDP again and tell me if it worked! You can try going higher, since I'm pretty sure it's better the higher it is. ------------------------------------------------------------ Linux ------------------------------------------------------------ This is only going to cover "NetworkManager" and "OpenVPN" If you're using something else, find your equivalent As a sidenote: I'm currently on Windows and can't confirm if it actually works, may update the post when I change back to Linux 1. Right-click the NetworkManager applet and choose Edit Connections 2. Double-click your VPN connection, in my case AirVPN_NL-Alblasserdam_Hydrus_TCP-433. Example 3. On the bottom above Save click Advanced... 4. Click on the checkbox that says Use custom tunnel Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) 5. Enter 1200. Example 6. And you're done! Try connecting to AirVPN with UDP again and tell me if it worked! You can try going higher, since I'm pretty sure it's better the higher it is. ------------------------------------------------------------ This is the first guide I ever wrote on the internet. If you have any suggestions, grammar mistakes that you found, feel free to let me know. Fun Fact: My ping actually decreased from 60 to 48. I'm guessing because my ISP has a shitty routing system, not sure though. - Scy
  6. Hello community, I'm trying AirVPN since yesterday and I must say I really like it. I use it on linux, Windows and Android, and it works pretty good (although my Android gets disconnected often for no reason, but I might open another thread for that). However, I just noticed that my torrents are working much faster when I use the TCP 443 config for OpenVPN, over the UDP one. This worries me a little, because UDP is recommended and is supposed to work better. I do get better pings with UDP, and general surfing and gaming works well, but the torrent speed just skyrockets with TCP. I have a forwarded port, which is working as per AirVPN checking, I have disabled UPnP and uTP on the client (Transmission). Are there some tests I can run to understand what happens? Does this happen to anyone? I've been reading the forum pretty much all day, and I'm a little lost. Thanks for your time! Edit: I forgot to add that websites that test speed always show good results, with UDP and TCP, only P2P traffic seems affected.
  7. Hello, I have been reading about the differences between UDP and TCP and they basically say that TCP is more reliable, as it does some extra "error-checking stuff", while UDP does no such thing. From that I can inferr basic things for example: TCP guarantees that your downloads are not corrupt in case of connection problems and so on. But as a newbie, i am not sure how to interpret that in another context: Do these extra error checkings also protect your privacy and anonymity against (theoretically) any kind of hacking, like intercepting and compromising the packets, or sniffing them ie spying on your activity online (from the government for example) ? And would i be at a disadvantage when using UDP in that case? Thank you
  8. Hello all, I have read all the information here: airvpn.org/topic/9161-you-provide-remote-port-forwarding-what-is-it/ And I have done other digging within the forum. It just seems that these posts are not helping me fix my issue so I am coming to you pros for help! My issue: Trying to forward ports 6112 and 6113 on TCP/UDP [both], for a game I play. So: I go to the port forwarding section in the Client Area, and I put 6112 in as the LOCAL PORT. I click 'Add' -- it then generates another port number for me such as 9898. In theory, that's all I need to do - according to other forum posts and the link I posted above. What is the relevance of this 9898 in the grand scheme? I know for bitorrent, I can use the '9898' as my incoming port so torrent works properly. And I already did that. But for the game it doesn't work. However, it's still not working when I play the game. Any ideas? If I'm not on VPN, the way I do this is: Go to my router, forward ports 6112 and 6113 on both protocols and set my internal IP. And then go to port triggering and put that in the router too (I have a linksys router). And that's it - works beautifully this way. Is there something I am missing?
  9. Dear support, I want to connect to AirVPN-Servers via SOCKS5 Server which supports UDP packets. So I added the line socks-proxy sockshost 1080 login.txt basic to my AirVPN-OpenVPN configuration file. Connection to SOCKS was successful, but not to your OpenVPN server: Wed Dec 16 10:44:55 2015 us=732339 UDPv4 link local: [undef] Wed Dec 16 10:44:55 2015 us=732453 UDPv4 link remote: [AF_INET]213.152.161.116:2018 WWWWW Do you block incoming SOCKS connections (perhaps from common SOCKS ports?) to your OpenVPN-Servers?
  10. I tried using airvpn in an open wifi but the standard config (udp 443) was not working. I didn't received any packages. I tried to download other configs with other ports and also with alternate entry ip, nothing worked. The only config which was working was a tcp config (every port was working with tcp). Outside the VPN I couldn't connect to my sip provider (I guess same problem as above). What kind of "censorship" is this? Why are all udp ports blocked? Does anyone has seen something similiar?
  11. Something I just read. Packet chaining, interrupt coalescing and other additional features like chimney offload are not supported by every interface or interface driver. It generally works with Realtek and Intel interfaces, though I experienced some exceptions in the past.. Would be interesting to know if these are available in the TAP driver...
  12. Hi, I started experimenting with AirVpn om my Android smartphone. The setup is the first I start Orbot, second AirVpn (UDP-443) and last but not least Orweb. Everything seems to be working and IP Chicken shows me a nice Ip adress. I want to apologize for my ignorance, but is this a good anonymous setup and how can I check that the VPN is going through Orbot? Kind regards,
  13. Despite trying multiple ports (UDP 443, UDP 80, UDP 53), my in-tunnel speeds are significantly lower than out-tunnel speeds. Per attached Speed Test results, Download speeds are ~19 Mb/sec out of tunnel and only ~12 Mb/sec in the tunnel. I'm using the Eddie client on Mac OS Yosemite, machine is a MacBook Pro 2015. Both Router and client are 802.11N. -I don't think Comcast is throttling my network and even if they are, the throttling should affect both in and out of tunnel speeds. -I've tried the SSH and SSL ports and the In-Tunnel speeds on those are closer to 8 Mb/s...lower than my UDP ports. -Also tried TCP ports and as expected, speeds are lower than UDP ports. Any suggestions or explanations for the large gap between my in and out tunnel speeds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Down: 19.032 Mbit/s Out, 11.900 Mbit/s In (62%), 20MB - Up: 5.469 Mbit/s Out, 5.213 Mbit/s In (95%), 20MB - Date: Thu, 11 Jun 2015 03:46:43 GMT - Buffers: 20MB/20MB - Laps: 10, Time: 423.95 secs Down: 20.546 Mbit/s Out, 12.207 Mbit/s In (59%), 20MB - Up: 0.347 Mbit/s Out, 3.792 Mbit/s In (1091%), 1MB - Date: Thu, 11 Jun 2015 04:03:37 GMT - Buffers: 20MB/1MB - Laps: 10, Time: 398.30 secs
  14. Hello AirVPN! I have a problem with UDP connections, I have had the problem with multiple different VPN services over the last 4 years. I have recently signed up to test with AirVPN and again the same issues. TCP works fine, albeit slower then I would like, so i would like to fix my UDP problem if possible. I use Wifi only, and from the room next to my router. I have a base stable connection at 30mbps (down) 9mbps (up). I get about 14-17mbps (down) and 8mbps(up) on TCP. I get sporadic results from UDP, from 1-3-7mbps (down) and anywhere from 1-8mbps (up). I can not even handle a normal 1080p stream in UDP. I would like to use UDP on AirVPN because I know its possible. I have tried many other VPN companies and all but one have this issue, one VPN company that does not have this issue gives me a stable 22-25mbps (down) and 8mbps (up) on UDP. I have a big family so normally we have two or three different VPN companies client subscriptions at a time and would like to keep AirVPN for my personal compuer, but again this issue. I really don't know whats causing it and if anyone has any ideas, I would be greatful. I don't know what the policy is about naming another VPN company here, but if it helps with the diagnostics and someone from AirVPN says its okay, then I can divulge that information. Thanks!
  15. Hiya, Got a question, I've bought a new router yesterday and when I came home in flashed the latest version of dd-wrt everything works just great and it's an awesome router, but when using openvpn the speeds are very slow. I'm getting 13mbit (up and down) over different ports (UDP and TCP) i'm using a server (different ones) in the netherlands and i'm also located in the netherlands. I've played with the Ciphers but nothing changes when using the client (on a windows machine im getting 70mbit on the same server). Is there anyway to boost the speed or is it just that the router can't handle it? Thanks in advance! edit: Did some checking but got a feeling it's the CPU of the router that's being the bottleneck. It's at 100% when using openvpn (and downloading something). To bad I thought a router like this would be up to the task but I was wrong
  16. I recently put in a ticket for slowdown across multiple servers. This turned out not to be a problem at all with Air, but was caused by speedtest.net (the measuring tool). A step back is necessary. I've been on AirVPN for several months, but I always used TCP until a few days ago, when I tried using UDP, hopingto get better performance. Running speedtest.net I was surprised to find my speed was terrible! If I connected with UDP, speedtest.net behaved very erratically. At times it didn't even load. Most of the time it loaded fine, and the test started with a decent speed, but gradually slowed down to a crawl. Often it slowed down so much that it just hanged - never completing. If I went back to TCP, speedtest worked fine, but the speed I got were much lower - about 30-35% of my actual (ISP) speed. Using spekeasy.net I can get reliable results both with TCP and UDP. I was pleased to realize with UDP I get close to ISP speed (25/3). I was just wondering if anyone else found this out.
