Fresh install on my computer. Only changes I did was turn off DNS checks, as those gave errors when connecting. When I'm connected to any USA server, my download and upload speed averages below 100kb (yes...KB, not mb). Why is my speed so crazily slow? Eddie_20200621_220905.txt

I'm new to using a VPN so I could use some help troubleshooting this. On my normal connection I can get >50 Mbps most days, but on AirVPN I'm lucky to crack 1 Mbps, usually 500-800 Kbps. I've tried on at least 2 dozen servers, mostly in U.S. (where I am) and Canada, some in Sweden or Netherlands. I always pick servers with < 15% load and ping < 100ms. I've also tried at least 15 protocol/port settings across all 4 protocols). Occasionally I'll find a server that might get up to 3-5 Mbps initially but that will soon drop to <1. Router is a TP-Link AC1900 with stock firmware, computer is Windows 7 connecting over AC Wifi. All network adapters are set to obtain IP/DNS automatically. I suspect the router is the bottleneck here but I don't know how to begin diagnosing that. Help would be appreciated. Edit: This is all tested on normal HTTP traffic tested on fast.com, speakeasy.com and speedtest.net

Hello, I have problems when downloading with AirVPN on Ubuntu 16.04 using OpenVPN client. I have tried switching to other VPN servers, but still have problems with the download speed. The speed often goes to zero and sometimes it goes up, but then quickly drops to zero again. For example it goes up to 1.1Mbit and then slowly goes back to zero. And 1.1Mbit is not even close to my actual network speed. When I disable openvpn the download speed is back to normal. Any ideas why this is happening? Cheers!

I've been experiencing very slow connection and doesn't matter which port or which server i'm using. Every now and then it seems to work fine.

I just convinced my friend who lives down the street to sign up for AirVPN given my wonderful experience with it so far. His experience on the other hand, has been far from it. First, he uses the Eddie client on his host Windows 7 PC using the same cable ISP as I do, the only difference being that I don't use a client to connect to AirVPN but rather pfSense to establish the tunnel. My speeds have been consistent with the speed plan that I am paying for. However, his seems to drop to unbearably slow levels and he is on the same plan as I am. I went to his house to troubleshoot the issue and cannot figure it out. I have reset his router to default settings, ensuring no traffic shaping or firewall policies were in place. I have turned off his Windows firewall and uninstalled all anti-virus programs. I have even tried using the OpenVPN client but always the same result - load time for web pages are noticeably slow, his torrent download speeds drop from 6 MB/sec. (with VPN off) to always around 20-30 KB/sec. (with VPN on), almost as if it were capped. We have changed the buffer settings in preferences for Eddie to no avail. We have tried other VPN servers in North America also and at first upon connection the results are promising - the speed increases to what it should be, but then slowly and gradually over the course of 30 seconds it drops down to 20-30 KB/sec. again! I have searched this topic and others seem to lay blame to the ISP capping the speeds but I don't think this is the case here because I am using the same ISP as him with the same plan and most likely on the same node since I live down the street and I have NEVER had this happen to me, and I connect to the same AirVPN servers as him. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Am I not affected because I don't use the client to connect? Can the ISP somehow tell if one of us uses a client and therefore caps the speed? Why don't I experience such issues using pfSense?

Down: 4.288 Mbit/s Out, 5.025 Mbit/s In (117%), 20MB - Up: 4.203 Mbit/s Out, 3.474 Mbit/s In (82%), 10MB - Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2017 17:00:20 GMT - Buffers: 20MB/10MB - Laps: 3, Time: 244.67 secs This is much slower than when off my tomato router based VPN connection to AirVPN - is there a problem here?

Hi there. After some research i spend a lot of money and bought an asus ac87u especially for using the vpn client. regarding to some tests elsewhere and posts here in the forum the router has enough power to do the en/decryption. I'm on a 50 MBit line and i have this speed without vpn. After connecting to airvpn the speeds drops to something around 10-20 MBit/s. This is when i connect to nl.vpn.airdns.org. Every other server in countrys around me (single servers or other country entry urls) gave me less than that. The server near my location are slower than the nl servers. I tried different protocols, ports and the real ips of the server to get dns out of the equation, to no avail) While downloading or during a speedtest the cpu never goes about 50% usage. To me it looks like the only thing that can be the reason for the slow speed must be the airvpn servers. Does anyone have some advice what i can do to get more bandwidth from the vpn? Thanks in advance. Justin

Hi I have just joined AirVPN (having previously used IPVanish) and am having mixed success. I use BT Infinity and connect with 2 PCs: one is an ethernet connection to my BT Home Hub. It runs 32 bit Windows 10 and seems to work flawlessly with AirVPN. The other is a wireless connection to the Home Hub (using BT's Wi-Fi dongle 900 and 64-bit Windows 10), and I keep getting a variety of errors. When not running a VPN, the wireless connection is excellent and very rarely fails. However, when I connect via the VPN, I invariably get a couple of errors: 1. When browsing, it is very common to get the DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error, and I have found that the only way to get round this is by restarting DNS client in the services menu. However, the problem recurs continuously. Sometimes it takes an hour or more to fail, but sometimes it is as little as 2 minutes. I have tried ipconfig /releaseipconfig /allipconfig /flushdnsipconfig /renew netsh int ip set dnsnetsh winsock reset without any success. 2. when downloading a torrent, the initial download is excellent, reaching 2 Mb/s, but then after about 10 minutes or less, the torrent speed slows to a crawl, and then zero. I have tried a variety of protocols: Automatic, TCP port 80 and SSL Tunnel 443, all to no avail. Both of these issues seem to occur whether or not the Network Lock is activated. I have also tried resetting Windows Firewall to default settings. I am very much a newbie when it comes to configuring this, but have reached the limit of my basic technical ability. I would be very grateful for any advice that could be offered. I attach a couple of log files which might give some indication of the cause of the problems I have been experiencing. Hi, I am using airvpn since about one month without any problems and great speeds. Today I am getting very low speeds. Without vpn iI get my 16 Mbps (testet on speedof.me), with vpn I am getting around 200kbps (!). I did not change my setup and I tried several servers in different countries. I also tried the speedtest on my mobile phone, same result. Also tried using openvpn directly on my pc, same result. Hi, I use OpenVPN and Vuze. I've bound my TAP adapter to VUZE and am forwarding a random port for transfers from AIRvpn. I'm getting a green smiley so it seems to be configured correctly, however, about the best download speeds I've experienced are 60-80kB/s. I've tried a several US servers and a few in UK and France, but they all seem about the same after 3-4 days of experimenting. Using Ubuntu as a test download. With the VPN, I get as high as 75kB/s. Without, easily over 2MB/s (likely higher with more time). Other items of interest, perhaps: PnP is disabled on Vuze and my router My ISP is Time Warner/Roadrunner with 50 down/5 up. I'm mildly-literate with networking and this is a little new. Is this the best I can expect? If not, help? -FreeReason Log: Sun Jun 07 21:31:48 2015 OpenVPN 2.3.6 x86_64-w64-mingw32 [sSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [PKCS11] [iPv6] built on Mar 19 2015Sun Jun 07 21:31:48 2015 library versions: OpenSSL Just started using AirVPN few days ago. I am experiencing slow download speeds regardless of time of the day or server load. I live in the Bay Area, California. I have Comcast cable Internet with 105Mbps download/10Mbps upload speed. My node is not oversold and does not slow down at all during peak hours so it's definitely not a problem with my ISP. I don't believe there is traffic-shaping either because I get great torrent download speeds without VPN. I am not using a router. I use a high-end desktop computer directly connected to my Motorola SB6141 cable modem via ethernet cable. Speed, latency and reliability is of great concern to me so I do not use wireless router or share my Internet with anyone. For my VPN configuration, I am using AirVPN's windows software on Windows 7, UDP protocol, no SSL or SSH. I don't like TCP and I don't believe switching to TCP will increase the speed, probably the opposite. I've tried different ports but download speed is always very slow, never above 20Mb/s. I've tried Los Angeles servers too but there wasn't any improvement in speed, always around 10Mb/s~20Mb/s. I haven't tried any servers outside of California because it's pointless to me. I need low latency. I don't use torrent download speed to benchmark VPN's speed. In addition to speedtest.net's speed test, I've tested real download speed by downloading multiple files at the same time from various 1Gbps servers. The total download speed never went above 20Mb/s. I currently also have a subscription with IPVanish's VPN. When using their VPN, I actually get 100+Mbps download speed without a problem. But their servers aren't reliable and frequently drop Internet traffic so I decided to give AirVPN a try. So, is there anyway to fix the low download speed I am experiencing with AirVPN's California servers? I love the reliability of AirVPN's Fremont servers but the low download speed is just not acceptable to me.

I've been getting download speeds of ~2.5Mbit since I started using AirVPN about a year ago and it never really mattered much to me until now because that was about the speed I could expect from my 'naked' internet connection. Now that I've moved I have a much better connection I would like to take advantage of and I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting... the download speed is mostly consistent for different servers as well as protocol and port configurations. Here's my speed test results from the website (with Cephei): Down: 19.492 Mbit/s Out, 2.485 Mbit/s In (12%), 20MB - Up: 2.207 Mbit/s Out, 2.062 Mbit/s In (93%), 20MB - Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2014 19:34:39 GMT - Buffers: 20MB/20MB - Laps: 3, Time: 340.83 secs I'd appreciate any help. I'm using Windows 7 and am connecting by the Windows client.

I have a 20/10 mbps plan from my ISP but as soon as I connect to one of AirVPN's servers, any server, I can never get over 10/10 mbps speeds. Is there some kind of throttling going on? I am using an Asus RT-N66U router with merlin firmware and VPN setup according to the instructions found on this site. I don't know what to do but obviously losing half my download speed when connected through AirVPN isn't acceptable, nor would I think it is normal. Any possible solutions I could look into? Do ISPs have a way of throttling VPN connections? I don't know what's wrong here. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I was conducting several tests to see how to better use Air and I encountered the fact that when I am connected through the Air client I have incredible slow download speeds (below 500 kbs) - without any VPN I have over 10 mbs. So, while doing research about this issue I find out that probably the ISP is trying to throtle me from using the VPN for this kind of activity.... So I generated an open vpn config using TCP-80 and everything works great, I have an average of 6.5 mbs when I download. The question which bothers me: Is this kind of configuration offering the same security as the client? Am I protected as well as I would use the Air client?
