I hope this doesn't break any rules, please let me know if it does (that's why I posted here) I'm not looking for AirVPN alternatives - more than happy with my 3 years with Air! Unfortunately though, Eddie doesn't work properly on my linux distro (ZorinOS), which I've customized quite a bit. So I'm looking for other clients that I can use AirVPN's servers on, that will hopefully work better. Any recommendations?

Linux user (ZorinOS, based on Ubuntu 22.04). Recently upgraded its version on a clean install, and now Eddie leaks DNS requests (this was not the case on the older version). On ipleak.net, first it shows the VPN's DNS, then some "GOOGLE" stuff I'm not sure where they're from, then my real ISP DNS. This is the case on multiple browsers (hardened firefox and brave) so I'm assuming it's a system-wide issue. Please if you have any suggestions let me know

Hi, I have written an alternative client for AirVPN that I would like to share with you. Just as Eddie, it supports other providers, too, as long as OpenVPN config files are provided. For AirVPN and Mullvad it offers a convenient update function that just requires you to enter your credentials in order to download the latest server configurations. Furthermore, it allows you to choose among the plethora of protocols offered by AirVPN (including OpenVPN over SSL/SSH) except the experimental ones (I might add support for those in the future, once they become available for all servers). Qomui (Qt OpenVPN management UI) as I have named it, is written in Python and PyQt and should run on any GNU/Linux distribution. It allows you to easily create double-hop connections. In other words, you can route your requests via two OpenVPN servers. This feature works provider-independent. For example, you could choose a Mullvad server for the first hop, and AirVPN for the second (I have successfully tested this with AirVPN, Mullvad and ProtonVPN). Thereby, it avoids a major downside of similar offers by some providers, namely the fact that if one provider controls all "hops" he or she could potentially still see, log or inspect all your traffic. In the latter case, you would gain little in terms of privacy. With the ability to "mix" providers, Qomui does not suffer from the same problem and hence offers some tangible benefits. Obviously, you would still have to sacrifice some speed/bandwith, though. Depending on your DE (looking at you, Gnome!), Qomui will also display a systray icon that shows the country of the server you are currently connected to. Additional features include protection against DNS leaks and a firewall that optionally blocks all outgoing network connections except for the OpenVPN server you have chosen. Since it is never recommended to run graphical applications as root, which is a major flaw of most OpenVPN clients, all commands that require root privileges are handled by a background service that can be controlled via systemd. The following screenshot gives you an idea of what Qomui looks like (on Arch/Arc Dark Theme). If you are interested, you can download Qomui from github: https://github.com/corrad1nho/qomui Of course, I'd be happy for any kind of feedback. If you find bugs or Qomui does not run properly or not at all on your machine, please let me know. I'm happy to help! At last, a big thank you to AirVPN and its amazing community. The fact that you rely more on explaining technical details than empty promises, has helped me to learn a lot. It is also one of the main reason why I chose AirVPN. Commendably, Eddie is also released as open-source software. Only Mullvad does that, too, to my knowledge. Why doesn't every provider do that? You are selling a service, not software! Why would I trust in proprietary software? Funnily, I have never really used Eddie, though, since I was accustomed to manually adding config files to NetworkManager as my first provider did not offer a GNU/Linux client. My interest in features such as OpenVPN over SSL made me look into more convenient solutions, though. Ultimately I decided to write my own program as I wanted to learn some Python and this provided a perfect practical challenge. I have actually used Qomui daily on multiple machines during the past few months and constantly tried to improve it. So I'd thought it'd be about to time to share it (it's an alpha release, though). Have a nice weekend! Corrado

So, yesterday night I logged in on airvpn to check the remaining time of my subscription and I randomly navigated through the forums to see what's new. And to my surprise I found that Eddie is on 2.14.4 version, while the version I was using was 2.10. And this has troubled me ever since. Is there a reason why there isn't an autoupdate/check for updates feature on Eddie? To my knowledge, even the most basic/indie/FOSS programs have a "check for update" option implemented. I would like to know the reasoning behind this. Thank you!

I'm using the latest client on Win 7 for quite some time now, but never had a need to blacklist some country, so I'm not sure did this work before. Anyway, whenever I blacklist Netherlands as a country, it stays blacklisted until I turn off the PC. As soon as I turn it on, start Eddie, it connects to Netherlands, even that I blacklisted it in the previous session. I check the countries tab and indeed, it's not blacklisted anymore. Shouldn't the client have some log file to save the desired settings for blacklist/whitelist? How to solve this issue? I want Netherlands to stay blacklisted.

My AirVPN client takes forever to launch on startup, often a few minutes. The app is set to auto-launch, but still takes forever to actually execute, and I cannot connect to the internet during this time because of some other issue. It's getting very annoying, and is quite detrimental to the experience of AirVPN.

Hi folks... I'm currently using QNAP 4.2.5 and using the stock VPN Client (and updating various files in QNAP system - can't remember how I did this all now hence this post). Now that AirVPN provides IPv6 support I want to update my cerificate/config (perhaps I don't need to and this is taken care of by the AirVPN servers?) So, if I DO need to update my connection, can anyone advise how to do this on QNAP 4.3.x which I believe introduces a new VPN client (QVPN Service?). And if it actually works? I've been reluctant to upgrade the QNAP version as previously had to roll back as couldn't get the AirVPN working. ***edit* oh and also which process to use to generate the VPN certificate/files from AirVPN too... sorry... Hope someone can point me in the right direction... Thanks in advance!

ANSWERED VPN over TOR Authentication Issue ...
404nbt posted a topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hi, Totally new to doing VPN over TOR. I'm just seeing what its like to set up. I'm using an iMac 27" macOS 10.13.3 & Eddie 2.12.4. I have Tor Browser installed and running fine, its connected to TOR. I followed the instructions on this page: https://airvpn.org/tor/ - In Preferences for Eddie Proxy/Tor>Type>Tor I clicked the test and Eddie indicates there is connectivity to Tor. Am I actually running the VPN through TOR as it is? See images. The Test indicates there is connectivity. But how do I know the VPN traffic is running through TOR? ipleak.net doesn't indicate any tor exit node. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated. Cheers. -
Hi I love airvpn .... I have used Shimo with it for a longer period of time, sometimes the connection seams to drop though (and I was a bit worried it would get me in trouble). Then my subscription ran out, so I started using Eddie. Now I have just started using setapp, which mean I can use Shimo for free. And I'm a bit in doubt if it would be best to dump Eddie and use Shimo again instead? Eddie seams to work fine, but the interface and ui is a bit hmm unpolished? Haven't really experienced it drop any connections though (haven't used it that much either though). So whats the best route for me to go here? Whats the best option? Shimo vs Eddie? Thnx

I am experiencing a problem on my Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64-bit, GNOME. I use the AirVPN client. Recently, my AirVPN subscription expired (I plan on extending it). Occasionally when I boot my system, I can't establish a connection to the internet until I connect to an AirVPN server. Since my subscription expired, I can't remedy this issue now by connecting to an AirVPN server. The AirVPN client does show the servers. How can I remedy this issue and gain access to the internet without being connected to an AirVPN server? - IPv4 DNS *is* set to automatic - Firewall is currently off

ANSWERED How to update OpenVPN and keep using Eddie
harbingerzjc posted a topic in General & Suggestions
I was reading the locked thread about AirVPN updating their server-side in response to the article about security vulnerabilities in OpenVPN, and was wondering how a user of, say Windows, or a user with OpenVPN on their mobile device would go about updating in a way that would maintain the settings they're currently using for AirVPN? The aforementioned thread does include a way to update in Linux, but doesn't say anything about other OS systems. -
HI, I recently updated to the latest version 2.11.15 and I noticed that sometimes, when I close the client, it stops the vpn and restores the normal status of connections, but it keeps running in background using just a few mb of memory instead of closing itself as usually happened with older versions. It apparently crashes. When I load Eddie again it says that another instance is already running, so I must kill the previous one first. Anyone with this problem? I am on Surface 3 running windows 10 x64 anniversary update build 14393.726. Thanks

Hi all, I have a little problem. I try to tell it with my terrible English. So i like to setup this VPN(airvpn client) >>> SOCKS PROXY>>> Browsers and others, virtual machines etc... (all socks traffic over vpn). The host os is linux.

I'm trying to log in via GUI using the airvpn_linux_x64_portable with centos. I open the client with: $ sudo ./airvpn Then I type in my loginname and password. Now it says: "Checking login..." and it just keeps doing this. Anyone had this problem before? I logged in using this same client 6 months back and I had no problems. Update: I finally recieved this error message: ! 2017.01.24 19:06:01 - Ready I 2017.01.24 19:06:41 - Checking login ... . 2017.01.24 19:26:02 - Cannot retrieve systems & servers data. Hello everyone, would someone be able to help me with the below issue please - AirVPN client version - 2.10.3 OS - Windows 7 Networl lock - On I installed the client yesterday and have been try to use it, but what I am experiencing is that the connection is fine for 4-5 mins, with very good speeds, and then, suddenly, the speed goes done to single KB/Sec and I can't connect to anything at all. I disconnect and then reconnect and it again works fine for 4-5 mins and then the same issue. I tried many different servers but seeing the same result. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated. I am attaching the client's log for analysis. Thank you. Best regards.

Hello, I downloaded the latest experimental version of Eddie and tried to install it while the older version was open. It gave me an error while installing, so I closed the running Eddie and completed the installation successfully. After it was complete, the client wouldn't start anymore and I'm getting this error (see attached screenshot). I tried to uninstall and reinstall the application but the problem persists, also the restart of windows didn't solve it. I also tried to run cmd as administrator and do "sfc /scannow" but it won't work. It gives me an error "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." I tried to install stable version of Eddie, same problem. What can I do? I'm running windows 10. Best regards, Alan
