Hello, Since the installation of Eddy on my OpenSuse is not working i tried to connect with my networkmanager. I downloaded the ovpn files and when i import one of them in my networkmanager it seems connecting to a server but when i login at airvpn.org it says I'm not connected? Also when i check my ip it's still the same one of my own ISP.

Hi there, I am fairly new to Linux and also to AirVPN. I am using the AirVPN client on 64 bit Linux Mate, running Transmission on my machine trying to set up remote access so I can view the web interface remotely. I have a DNS running on my Raspberry Pi so I am attempting to use my domain (for example 2Girls1CPU.mooo.com:9091) to access the web UI. I have tested the DNS, through port 22 to SSH into my raspberry pi to confirm that it is working. Here is what I have tried: Initially I set up remote access in Transmission. I had the port as 9091, with authentication and no whitelist of IP addresses. Then I went into AirVPN client area and set up a port forwarding rule. Obviously 9091 was taken, so I just created a random port, forwarded through TCP (I've tried UDP, as well as both TCP and UDP). Then I took that random port, say 27364 and entered it into the remote access settings in Transmission. I also went into my port forwarding rules in my router and added a rule to forward 27364 to my Laptop running AirVPN and Transmission (say 192.168.1.43). External and internal port both the same obviously. Now with this setup, I would assume when I try to access port 27364 (with 2Girls1CPU.mooo.com:27364) - my VPN would forward that to my router port 27364, which would then forward to 192.168.1.43:27364. I may be completely wrong as I do not have a solid understanding of networking and port forwarding, but this setup did not work. One thing that confused me was under the port forwarding rules on AirVPN client area, it says "Forwarded to 10.x.x.x". Why is this being forwarded to an IP with a 10. ip range? Should it not be forwarded to my internal IP? Or how exactly does that work? I'm probably missing something here, but I just can't work it out. I'm not sure how the port forwarding within AirVPN works. If anyone could give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated. One more thing I am wondering - how safe is it to have a port forwarded like I am attempting while using AirVPN? Is there any potential for leaks? Thanks! -2Girls1CPU

Hi, I'm interested on use a vpn to get access to restricted sites on a local network with a moderate high speed bandwidth, I've been using a different vpn to fulfill this, but recently only use linux so I need an alternative to my previous vpn, I tried to connect with the client inside the network but got error 417, on an unrestricted network didn't get the error, instead got the message 'Subscription required'. I searched the 417 error on internet but didn't understood the answers so I'm asking here how can I solve this problem?, also is there any trial service to test the service to allow me connect and download on a restricted network before any purchase?.

I've followed the instructions for building the AirVPN client here, and it seems to run just fine. The downloaded copy doesn't seem to like the newer version of Mono I'm running, but building it on my machine seems to work ok when I run it (so far). How do I make a .deb package or otherwise install it? I've tried the Tools|Build Package, but that gets me a tar.gz file which I'm really not sure about, and I'm also unsure as to exactly which segments I need to select anyway.

ok, using Ubuntu 14.04, Thunderbird, VPN through Network manager. Unable to connect to my outgoing mail server. smtp.secureserver.net / 68.178.213.37 port 465 SSL/TLS . I am unable to connect to it while on VPN (Blocked I assume), turn off VPN and I have no problem. This also seems to be the only port they offer. Is there a way to add to the settings that anything going to this address to bypass VPN via the iptables and if so how. Tried a few settings and still doesnt work. Or do I need to add a additional Netcard?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way via static routes or multi-homed configuration that would allow me to run the AirVPN client while maintaining my connection to the LAN. I am running the client inside a Linux MINT VM. I would not want to compromise security or anonymity in any way. Regards,

Hi, I'm connecting through Eddie 2.9 in Ubuntu. In the preferences I have LAN and ping both enabled, and I've also whitelisted the ip address of the networked printer at my office. But I still can't access it unless I turn network lock off. But I can access other computers on the LAN. It's just the printer that I can't talk to. Any advice?

I'd like to share the configuration which I use with VPN in order discuss and for others to use. The idea is to launch apps which should use VPN inside a separate network namespace. Other apps will run inside the default network namespace and use the default direct connection without VPN. Linux network namespaces enable you to configure a container with separate set of network interfaces with separate routing table, separate firewall rules and separate resolv.conf. Only processes which are inside the namespace will be able to access and use all that. You should compile network namespace support in your kernel and the support the "veth" network device. veth is a pair of virtual devices. They operate this way: data that comes into one, comes out from another and vice versa. We use them to link namespaces together because your eth0 can only exist in one namespace. I am running: OS: Gentoo init system: systemd network managent tool: netctl (from Arch Linux, available in Gentoo) You would have to adapt your configuration if you're using anything else. It should be easy. GENERAL OVERVIEW. Default namespace contains these interface: lo lan0 veth1 br0 Additional namespace contains: lo veth0 tun0 lan0 is my physical net interface (you could think of that as eth0). Kernel links veth0 to veth1. br0 bridges lan0 and veth1 together. tun0 is the VPN tunnel through veth0. I called my additional namespace "vpn". This way processes from both namespaces can communicate with my LAN. Processes from the default namespace communicate this way: (br0) -> lan0. Processes from "vpn" namespace communicate this way. In case of a LAN connection: veth0 -> veth1 -> (br0) -> lan0 In general case: tun0 -> veth0 -> veth1 -> (br0) -> lan0 STEP 1. Startup script. Create a startup script which takes care of creating veth0/veth1 pair for you. It also creates the vpn namespace. The point is how br0 gets its MAC address. I want lan0's MAC higher than veth1's MAC in order for br0 to use lan0's MAC and for MAC-based DHCP server not to misbehave on my router. If br0 gets veth1's MAC, the machine will get a different IP address in comparison to what it gets without a bridge. STEP 2. resolv.conf After you run the script or reboot, you have to setup resolv.conf for the namespace. Look for it in /etc/netns/vpn/resolv.conf. For airvpn it should contain "nameserver 10.4.0.1" line. For a shell running in "vpn" namespace, /etc/netns/vpn/resolv.conf will be automatically bound to /etc/resolv.conf. STEP 3. Bridge interface. Setup the bridge interface. In my case it is a netctl profile in /etc/netctl/bridge: Description="bridge connection" Interface=br0 Connection=bridge BindsToInterfaces=(lan0 veth1) IP=dhcp TimeoutDHCP=15 STEP 4. Running openvpn in the namespace. Reboot and check that br0 is up. This rules allow all local traffic (192.168.1.0/24) and all traffic through VPN. Note that you cannot put hostname instead of 95.211.138.7 in your .ovpn file because openvpn wouldn't be able to resolve it. Check that the shell has access to exactly 2 interfaces: lo, veth0 (run ifconfig for that). Now launch openvpn: sudo openvpn --config /etc/openvpn/airvpn.ovpn --daemon You should see the 3rd interface (tun0) appear soon. Ready to roll. You can launch apps in background from the shell. The only serious problem I've encountered is that you can't runs apps which need dbus connections this way. I haven't figured out how to fix that yet. Setting the envitonment variable didn't help. Does anyone know why?

Hello! ubuntu 14.04LTS Is there a simple way to bypass the vpn for plex or rather a specific port? I need a direct connection to my dedicated server for plex. Any help is very much appreciated. Thx! edit: I found a simple solution for ubuntu. Now, I use an ubuntu lxc-container for everything that I want to do with AirVPN (openvpn). The main system does not connect to AirVPN, thus I can easily establish a direct connection with my plex server. I know this should be possible with firewall rules and routes, but this is a good option for me.

Hi! Since (approx.) last week the AirVPN client doesn't connect automatically to recomended servers - it goes in an endless loop trying to conect/retrying. Hi. I use AirVPN in Ubuntu's network manager and would like to use it as tap0, as opposed to tun0, so that I can bridge my connection via ethernet cable to another device (one which is not as easy to configure) and have it connect to the Internet the same way a virtual machine would (i. e. connecting through AirVPN the way my PC would). Unfortunately, I have found no way to bridge (or otherwise sharee) the connection besides using a TAP device. However, upon changing the .ovpn files from 'dev tun' and 'persist-tun' to 'dev tap' and 'persist-tap', I have found that I am unable to access the Internet. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot out there on sharing a VPN connection via Ubuntu, so I'd appreciate any suggestions that you might have for me. Oh, and if this is possible, I wonder why AirVPN files pick TUN over TAP. Is it in any way safer? Would I be compromising security in this case to get a little more functionality?

Hi all, I encountered a rather annoying bug. I wrote a shell script that I want to execute every time the VPN tunnel is up. My test script (which does nothing more than echoing text to a test text file) works fine when I set it up under Advanced -> Events -> App Start, App End, Session Start, Session End, VPN Pre, VPN Down but not VPN Up! When I choose to run a script on VPN Up (tested with and without waiting for the script to end) the following happens: Latency tests Checking authorization Restart in 3 seconds Connecting to server Checking route (request timed out) And this goes on and on, the VPN never actually connects. I assume there is a little bug in the VPN Up event. Hopefully this can be fixed in the next version. Best regards

Hi all, I have the Linux AirVPN Eddie Client 2.8.8 running on Lubuntu. When I try to "Save As" the log files from the GUI it defaults to a "Desktop" directory. As you can see on the attached screenshot, I saved a log file called AirVPN_log.txt. However, it seems that this is not really my desktop. The saved file doesn't show up on my desktop and other files that are on my desktop don't show up in the "Save As" Desktop folder... From the "Save As" dialog I can not navigate to any folder that is familiar to me. There is also no way to open, delete or move files already saved (like the AirVPN_log.txt file). My question is: where does AirVPN save these log files? I can not find the AirVPN_log.txt anywhere on my system, still the Eddie Client seems to have saved it somewhere. Thanks in advance

I'm trying to connect to AirVPN under Arch Linux via NetworkManager/OpenVPN. It connects successfully (it shows a padlock), but if I go to http://ipleak.net/ I can still see both my ISP public IP and my ISP DNS server. I followed this guide (even if it's for Ubuntu). You can find the relevant logs from the "journalctl" command in the attachment.

Eddie 2.7 and 2.8; Linux Mint 17.1: From /user/bin, I invoked ./airvpn, which produced the following output: Unhandled Exception: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "/home/*/.airvpn/logs/airvpn_2015-01-07.log" is denied. I fixed the problem by taking ownership of the logs directory (chown) and removing the logs. Quick fix, but could be troublesome for a novice user. Thanks for the service! All the best

I connect to AirVPN using the network-manager applet on Fedora 20 x64. I have a couple of ports forwarded, which are manually allowed in Fedora's firewall and entered into qBittorrent (latest v3.1.9-2). I have just noticed that while the connection never leaks DNS when used normally, as soon as qBittorrent is running my DNS leaks almost every time I test. Here is what happens once qBittorrent is open: Once qBittorrent is closed, the leaks stop. Does anyone have any ideas? As far as I knew DNS leaks were basically a Windows problem. Currently qBittorrent is set to use the tun0 interface only, and my network-manager settings are as follows: Ethernet: Connect automatically, IPv4 only, connect to AirVPN as soon as interface is up. AirVPN: Port 443 over UDP, no special settings after importing config files from Air's generator. The whole machine connects through an IPFire (Linux hardware firewall/router distro) box. Can anyone help shed some light on this please? Thanks in advance.

Hi There, I just realized im still running 2.4. When I try to donwload from airvpn.org/linux selecting .deb 32bit, the downloaded version is still 2.4. I'm not sure if the code is actually 2.7, but at least the debian package states version 2.4. Cheers, Martin

So I have the AirVPN client on Ubuntu. I've been reading the posts on the forums but no post about leaks and AirVPN client by itself. Is this good enough to prevent leaks on linux or do I need to follow those other guides to prevent leaks? Does the AirVPN client modify IPTABLES? Is that still necessary?

Arch x86_64 Linux 3.17 LXDE Openbox Xorg Running the Eddie client results in a graphical error. The window frame and embedded text are fine but user fields are ~1px-3px. This makes it difficult to read any menu, log or text input (such as log in and password.) Not sure if it is just me but it is definitely just this software on my machine. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but I thought I would post a thread for feedback. Thanks

I would like to be able to use VPN only with Hexchat. I'm using eddie 2.7. I'm on elementary OS. Is there a way to do this so the VPN only gets used through Hexchat?

Hello, I have a strange problem: I'm using Linux Mint 17 (Cinnamon, 64-bit), no firewall settings applied. After connecting to AirVPN through the network-manager (using .ovpn config file imported) or using "Eddie 2.1 (Portable)" I cannot connect to my Jabber/XMPP profiles (i have two different profiles on two different jabber-servers, including Jitsi). I have tried Pidgin, Gajim and Jitsi. Pidgin cannot login into my accout, Gajim is seems to be connected but no one can see me logged in and I don't see any contacts online, and I cannot send/receive any messages - so I'm accually offline. When I am connected to Jitsi/XMPP account I can see other contacts and they can see me, but I cannot send messages only receive them and I cannot make/receive any calls. In all cases, when I use "Net Activity Viewer" application I see that there is a connection established from local address 10.4.x.x to a jabber-server on a remote port 5222 but still I cannot communicate. I have also tried to flush iptables settings just to be sure - it didn't help. // Just to be clear - I try to connect to XMPP after I have established AirVPN connection. Everything else working but XMPP. When I'm disconnected from AirVPN everything works just fine. // I was using AirVPN under Windows 7 and everything was working (with Comodo anti-leaking Global Rules applied). To be 100% sure, I have tried a clean install of Linux Mint 16 and 17 (both Cinnamon, 64-bit) on a flash drive. The problem repeated. There is more: I have tried to boot from Linux Mint Debian Edition (from a flash drive with installation iso image written on it) - there was NO problem connecting to XMPP accounts under AirVPN connection (using Eddie 2.1 Portable! Hi guys! So I am attempting to setup my Transmission bittorrent client with Transdrone (Transdroid) app on Android. I want to be able to use this android remote app to connect to my desktop (where Transmission is running) while I am connected to this VPN. So I: 1) Connected to a server (say Server A). 2) Configured port forwarding on AirVPN's site (AirVPN > Client Area > Forwarded ports). Let's say I forwarded port 7712 and 7713. 3) Logged into Transmission and set port 7712 as the Incoming port (Transmission > Preferences > Network) and made sure 'Pick a random port at startup' was unchecked. 4) Allowed remote access (HTTP) from port 7713 and configured username/password authentication. Made sure 'Only allow these IP addresses' was unchecked. 5) Then set my firewall to allow incoming connections from port 7712 and 7713 (TCP). * I DID NOT log into my router and configure port forwarding for these ports (or any for that matter). When I hit the 'Test Port' button (Transmission > Network) to test port 7712, it says 'Port is OPEN'. Cool. ----- So what is my post about? "If you forward a port for a p2p torrent client, do NOT remap it to a different local port and make sure that the torrent client port matches the remotely forwarded port number" - What is meant by "do not remap it to a different local port"? Am I supposed to log into my router and setup port forwarding for port 7712 & 7713? "do NOT forward on your router the same ports you use on your Bittorrent or eMule client (or any other listening service) while connected to the VPN" - Doesn't this contradict the previous instruction? What is the correct way to configure port forwarding so that my P2P client will work with my android remote app? (and seed)
