  1. After trying every free VPN on PC and Android that never matched my expectations with not enough data available or too slow, i wanted to try some paid VPN to see if it was better but most of them only give minimum a month with money back guarantee plans which looks like forced selling, so i dug and read every review and i found that AirVPN proposed a cheap 3 days trial so i could try it fully to see what it is like and it was excellent, even better than my connection without VPN, i could do streaming, torrenting, on my ArchLinux PC, my wife's Ubuntu based Linux PC, on my smartphone, it is very easy to use, a very good service for a very good price, so i took 3 months the first day of my 3 days trial and i will surely continue as long as the quality of the service is the same. Good job, this is what i was looking for in a VPN, i am a very satisfied customer.
  2. I use PCLinuxOS with Eddie and do not notice Eddie requiring me to relog in every 20-30 minutes. On my Android device it seems I'm re-logging in every 20 to 30 minutes. Retyping my password, clicking on quick connect. I'm wondering if other Android users are having the same problem. Thank you for your time in reading this thread.
  3. Hi, After I started to run the Eddie for Android I noticed that I was not getting any messages or calls in Signal Messenger. I also had problems with some apps on my Android Wear watch like weather that wouldn't update. As soon as I closed the VPN connection I got a stream of Signal messages and notifications and the weather app on my watch worked again. This makes it totally impractical for me to use the Eddie for Android if that setting is enabled. So I decided to disable it and get a serious warning that security was compromised. I have used the OpenVPN Connect app with AirVPN for a while without such problems. Maybe that client doesn't have the Persistent Tunnel settings? Anyway, if it turns out I have to have Persistent Tunnel set I just can't use Eddie for Android since apps and services I use all day just doesn't work. There should be a warning that the Persistent Tunnel setting may cause apps and services to not work on the phone. I now run without it and feel compromised but do not know whether I'm more compromised than I was using the OpenVPN Connect client or other VPN services on Android. Could someone who knows more about these things than I do please clarify and explain the thinking behind the setting and the warning when it's being disabled. //C
  4. A german IT security blogger recently discovered that NordVPN's official android app transmits personally identifiable information to NordVPN and a few third parties. The checked version of their app is v3.9.8 which seems a few versions behind the current branch but still fairly recent. The blogger discovered that a user's Google mail address along with the advertising ID and a bit of other info are sent to Iterable, AppsFlyer and Tune along with some Google services like Analytics - all seemingly without the user's consent and even without mentioning it in the app's ToS. Of course customer support has been asked as well. Their answer was not satisfactory: Everyone interested in some of the HTTP POSTs discovered can look at them in the article linked above. The article itself is German-language, but it doesn't contain more info than this, only a bit of the writer's opinion which I share: It's very questionable that a "no-log" or even "privacy-centered" VPN provider like NordVPN is bold enough to state "marketing reasons" as their justification to track users of their Android app. Even worse that this tracking is performed by third parties who will most likely use this data in cross-referencing... Try to avoid NordVPN. Searching for "NordVPN" in this forum alone will yield more than enough reason. One in three newly created threads is about them.
  5. Hello everyone I'm currently on a trial, and set up AirVPN successfully both on my NAS and Android terminal. So far, everything is working nicely. The one thing I couldn't do until now is getting my phone to connect to the VPN at boot. I've read that it was only available for OpenVPN profiles, so I imported one as well. However, on startup, nothing happens. As I'm in Always-On mode, I get a notification stating that no VPN connection has been established. When I open the Eddie app for the first time after reboot, it does connect to the profile by itself, but I still need to open the app manually. My device is a Nokia 7 Plus, running Android P. Perhaps unrelated question, but what are the "Authentication" settings used for ? (the ones between DNS and System sections). I did already put my airvpn credentials above, along with the master password.
  6. Hello, I was messing around with a local web page hosted on my raspberry pi for local projects, and using that web page works fine from my pc which has an ethernet cable to my router. However when I try to access the page with my android phone, I cannot connect to the web page. I can also not reach my router admin page from my android device, something that DOES work on my pc... All three devices: pc, android phone, raspberry pi are running on AirVPN. The moment I disconnect from the VPN, I can access the admin panel and the website from my phone. Is there a way to make devices connected via wifi while using the VPN able to access my router / other local machines? Thanks in advance.
  7. Hello, I run Android 7.0 on an LG K10 smartphone. When I switched from OpenVPN to Eddie things worked out fine at first. I haven't messed around with the settings or anything, but now I notice that Eddie will disconnect from the VPN and logout without warning, thus leaving my phone exposed. Is it just me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards
  8. I was just wondering if it would be possible to set up AirVPN on my Amazon Fire Stick. My reason for doing this is that I wish to watch US Netflix programs and I am in the UK.
  9. Hi, Application Version: 2.0.1 Could someone please try to change the port or protocol settings within the Android Eddie Client as I seem to change the settings then when trying to connect and it just connects using Port 443 and UDP. This seems to be a bug for me and I would like to confirm it with someone else. Thanks.
  10. Hi, The Problem: Testing my connection speed outside of the VPN results in speeds of circa 50-75Mbps, however, in the VPN (through the Eddie client and a standard OpenVPN application) results in speeds of circa 5-10Mbps. Test conditions: Software: Android 9 Device: Oneplus 6T Network: EE (Max plan) Attempted Solutions: Changing to a wide range of servers (different countries and different servers within the same country)Changing the portChanging the Encryption methodologyChanging Phones (seems to have the same issue with a Samsung S7 edgeI am open to suggestions as to why I seems to be throttled only when on my mobile connection as when I'm on my home Wifi the connection is near enough the smart regardless of the VPN. Thanks.
  11. Hi, I just installed most recent Eddie 2.x for Android on my phone and I like it very much! One important issue though. I'd like to have access to my local (home) network (e.g.192.168.x.x) with the tunnel enabled, as I use my device also as a remote for some home/local network services. Unfortunately Eddie Android does not allow that. Yes, I read about blacklisting the apps to make sure they are excluded of the tunnel, but honestly I find that rather inconvenient and clumsy. Is there another way? Is it possible to exclude/blacklist an IP range such as my home network like it seems to function that way in the desktop client? Kind regards, ZS
  12. Hi, I just switched from another VPN provider to AirVPN. I got a little nervous when I relaized that the Linux client was Java based, but I'm over the "shock" watching the World Cup without any problems. I use VPN a lot on Android as well and see that there's no dedicated AirVPN client. I have found documentation for setting up the OpenVPN clients for Android to use AirVPN. I have tried the OpenVPN Connect client and it seems to work good. However, I was wondering if there's some consensus around here which OpenVPN client works best with AirVPN on Android, or if they all do the same thing with a some UI and feature differences?
  13. Does Android 9 (Pie) fully support IPv6? I'm wondering because I'm not sure which options to choose in AirVPN's Config Generator. Should I choose "IPv4 only," "IPv4 & IPv6 (connect with IPv4)," or "IPv4 & IPv6 (connect with IPv6)?" Right now, I'm using an AirVPN configuration with just IPv4. But, I'm wondering if one of the IPV6 options might be a better choice.
  14. I installed V1 of the Eddie client for Android on my Fire TV. I also activated an ovpn file. I kept the default configuration plus a whitelist of just a couple of apps to test. The client starts normally and connects, I can see in the little stats box that there is some minimum traffic, but after a few seconds, probably 30 or 60 at most it says the VPN tunnel has been locked. When I look in the logs it says there was an error and that it changed state to Lock VPN. I think it says it's event 14. The only way to get out of the lock is to disconnect and reconnect, but a few seconds later the error happens again. For what it's worth I use this other client successfully: http://plai.de/android/ Being a fire tv I'm not even sure how to export full logs. Any ideas?
  15. Install OpenVPN for Android. Hosted on GitHub: https://github.com/schwabe/ics-openvpnNote: if you don't have access to Google Play Store, you can download "OpenVPN for Android" apk here: https://airvpn.org/repository/ics-openvpn-latest-stable.apkLaunch your internet browser.NOTE: don't use the default Android browser because it has an unresolved bug. Chrome and Opera have been tested by us and work. Connect to AirVPN website, login and create the configuration files from our Config Generator.Choose Linux as platform (only direct TCP and UDP connections are supported) and finally click the "Generate" button to download it. Downloaded .ovpn files may be imported directly into the application but the behavior depends on many factors (employed browser, files manager, Android version, etc). For simplicity's sake, we assume in this guide that you saved .ovpn generated files under the Download directory in the Android filesystem. Open OpenVPN for Android and tap the top right "Import" button: Click on the import button of the prompt dialog: Browse to *.ovpn files: Select your configuration of choice: Confim the import with the top right button: Click on the imported profile to connect: Confirm the Android's security prompt dialog: Wait for the bootstrap sequence: The VPN tunnel is now established: When you need to disconnect from the VPN click on the "Disconnect" button from the app's notification: Confirm the prompt dialog:
  16. Hi I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S8+ running Android 8.0 and having issues with the VPN disconnecting after a few minutes (<1 hour) of not using the device. This happens with both OpenVPN for Android & the Eddie - OpenVPN GUI. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling OpenVPN for Android as well as deleted the config files and redownloaded them, but still doing so. Power Saving mode is off & I've also tried switching to other modes (Game/Entertainment/High performance). Does anyone know why/how to fix this? Apologies if this has already been discussed in another post/thread, I had a look but couldn't find anything, happy to use such a thread if you can point me to it. Thank you.
  17. I am using the Eddie for Android latest version, and with the IPv6 setting set to "request", and when I connect to one of the IPv6 enabled servers such as Capricornus, I do not have IPv6 connectivity, only IPv4. ipleak.net only shows the VPN IPv4 address, and I am unable to view IPv6 only sites such as ipv6.google.com. how can I fix this and be able to use the VPN'S IPv6 address?
  18. Hello. I live in the US and have been using VPN services here fine for around 2 years, but next week I am planning on going on a 3 week trip to Iran and am only bringing my mobile phone (Samsung Galaxy S9+ running Android 8.0.0) . I would like to know which VPN protocols, ports, and locations would be best for me to use while in Iran both in terms of effectively blocking censorship, and also in speed. Thank you
  19. Hi all, i have some issues with my openvpn for android client. i followed the instructions in the how-to section to setup openvpn for android. everything worked fine but: first issue: i get reconnects every few minutes and second issue: when i check for dnsleaks on ipleak.net everything looks smooth. no leak. i see airvpn exitip and airvpndns. but when i visit airvpn.org i see on top of the site my real ipv6 address. someone can tell me how to solve this errors? regards
  20. Hi, I would like to use AirVPN on my Android device but am concerned about leaking. I have seen some posts on here about using AfWall+ and was wondering if this is the best way to go. Android now also natively has a kind of Network Lock feature. But then there is also the boot leak (discussed here, along with providing a userinit script for droidwall to disable network connectivity during boot and also a script to prevent Google portal capture during wifi connection: https://blog.torproject.org/mission-impossible-hardening-android-security-and-privacy). My thinking is to use OpenVPN on the latest Lineage OS and would appreciate any assistance on the matter. Thank you.
  21. Hello. I’m trying to figure out how to import and use SSL or SSH on iOS and Android using the OpenVPN client. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I can’t even get a connection to any server. any ideas on how to get this working?
  22. Hello, I recently installed Antergos Linux (Arch Linux) on my main Computer and my Laptop. So I downloaded the Config files and tried to run them with the default openvpn. I cannot establish a connection. The resulting error is: Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 OpenVPN 2.4.4 x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu [sSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [LZ4] [EPOLL] [PKCS11] [MH/PKTINFO] [AEAD] built on Sep 26 2017 Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 library versions: OpenSSL 1.1.0g 2 Nov 2017, LZO 2.10 Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 Outgoing Control Channel Authentication: Using 160 bit message hash 'SHA1' for HMAC authentication Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 Incoming Control Channel Authentication: Using 160 bit message hash 'SHA1' for HMAC authentication Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: switzerland.vpn.airdns.org:443 (Name or service not known) Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: switzerland.vpn.airdns.org:443 (Name or service not known) Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 Could not determine IPv4/IPv6 protocol Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 SIGUSR1[soft,init_instance] received, process restarting Thu Feb 1 12:47:55 2018 Restart pause, 5 second(s) I tried it on my Android device where I also have the config files from before a month. The old ones are working, the new ones don't. Maybe someone has the same problem or a solution? The Problem occurs also when I download another protocol-config or change the Server/State. Thanks
  23. I installed OpenVPN and downloaded the connection info for a variety of locations and installed them per the instructions. I am using a Samsung Chromebook Pro. When I run OpenVPN and choose a location it appears to connect correctly and I see a "success" message with an IP address. However, when I check to see what my IP address is, it is not the one that OpenVPN is showing me, instead it is for the local ISP here where I am traveling (in this case Prague). I can't access a number of website for sports streaming apps because they claim I am outside of the territorial restrictions, which technically I guess I am, but that's the point of using the VPN. I never had an problems on my old Windows laptop. Is this just some weird Chromebook issue? It seems strange that OpenVPN is showing me success and an IP connection but my traffic doesn't seem to be using it.
  24. SOLVED. Hi all, I'm trying to connect my Android phone over SSL using this well written guide https://airvpn.org/topic/24349-how-to-airvpn-via-sslstunnel-on-android-678/ Stunnel fires up fine but VPN does not. Log file attached. Air log SSL Android.txt Thanks.
  25. First of all, I would like to declare that I read and implemented this post: https://airvpn.org/topic/11476-using-airvpn-with-openvpn-for-android/ On OpenVPN, I imported the config file that I generated through AirVPN, and when it comes to activating that config file, I just cannot confirm the dialogue box showing up. It is displaying that there is a connection request and OpenVPN for android wants to set up a VPN connection that allows it to monitor network traffic. I just cannot click OK when this dialogue box pops up... I tried all kinds of things that I thought would affect the result without any success such as giving storage permission to OpenVPN, generating the config file as both UDP and TCP, selecting platform as both Android and Linux, as well as selecting various servers. Don't know what else I can do. I even tried to directly connect to VPN without OpenVPN through Android VPN settings. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
