Speeds peaking and plummeting while torrenting
LZ1 replied to airvpn18259's topic in Troubleshooting and Problems
Hello! Have you done portforwarding? Tried changing TAP drivers? Tried the Eddie client? Or tried the Experimental? You provide precious little information haha. -

Ah wayland. It has caused problems for others too. You can check the Eddie beta thread about that, if you want to post it. -
Hello! You can follow the tips in the relevant guide in my signature if you wish. Otherwise try a different server at least - perhaps also clear your cookies and such.

Hello! Are you using the Experimental Eddie client? -
If it has something to do with NL, how about you try things out with NL disabled? I'm on Linux, so it's pretty fast. I see my desktop at the same time Eddie boots lol. Though I have to type in my password . Takes arounddddddddddddd 5-10 seconds or so for me to connect. Maybe less. We're spoiled in Linux land, why don't you come join us on vacation sometime, haha?

Hello! You could also try the Experimental client, if you're so inclined . I'm not sure if it'll make a difference, but it certainly comes with a lot of updates, which may make that happen. Also, it works better with all that 3rd party security software that you've got - which may perhaps be interfering with the operation of your current Eddie program. It's quite possible to max your connection and/or get very high speeds, as evidenced by the many other users who do so. Do make sure to use different kinds of speed tests too and not just Airs built-in one, if that's what you meant when you said multiple speed tests. Lastly, if you're torrenting as a way of testing your speeds for example, remember to do some port-forwarding as well. Welcome to AirVPN as well !

Hello! 44 is the number of Netherlands servers. Each server has a different IP address. IP address is maybe what you call ISP numbers. If you go to ipleak.net you can see your IP and DNS addresses. Try connect to different servers and then go to ipleak.net to see the difference. The number of users usually doesn't affect the speed that much in my experience. You have to look at the server load. But there's many factors; server load (number of users) isn't the only thing. 42 means 42 miliseconds and is sort of an indication of speed. The lower the number, the better, because it means it took less time for communication to go from your PC to that server. You have to try the different servers to see which ones are fastest for you in particular. You can start with the ones at the top of the list, which have the *lowest* ms/ping number. It is indeed better than PIA

Hello! 1 - Did you install everything on your SSD or does your system have a spare HDD? 2 - Have you made sure your SSD has at least 20% free space? If not, it can mess with the TRIM functions, which serve to maintain your hardware. 3 - Have you made sure there's really not a lot of start-up programs? Some programs aren't so obvious with their startups. With that amount of RAM, you could also make a RAMDisk

Haha, no worries. All questions are welcome. I like new people. Third party security software is exactly stuff like AVG . You're already using the Eddie client. It's just that the Experimental client is a Beta version of that client. It has some new features in it, which allow it to potentially work better together with software like AVG and thus potentially run into less problems. If you're concerned about your firewall rules, you could always reset the rules, by going to Control Panel>System & Security>Windows Firewall>Reset/restore defaults. I doubt you have a virus - but I don't know your system in detail . I don't know if the Opera VPN makes changes to the system, but I imagine it's probably a good idea to shut it down, while troubleshooting. It should also be fine, whether or not your WiFi is set to Public or Private - it's just a preset of sorts. I think the most important thing is making sure neither AVG nor your firewall and/or other software is blocking Airs software. But sometimes troubleshooting the exact cause is quite tedious and thus a reset is often the simpler, quicker solution. So Make sure your password doesn't contain any special characters, as it can sometimes cause problems. You can try reset your Windows firewall.

Hello! If you've never been able to get a VPN to work(!), that strongly suggests a problem on your system. You can contact Air Support here. Just don't call in an airstrike . Are you running any 3rd party security software? By the looks of it, the Air ICMP got blocked somehow. If so, try adding airvpn.exe, openvpn.exe and tap.exe to any and all exceptions lists of those programs. Otherwise simply download the Experimental client, as it works better with such 3rd party software. Links can be found in the guide in my signature. Sometimes it can also work to change your password on the website, to something shorter and then try to login with the Air program . Edit: Welcome to AirVPN by the way!

Hello! Have you tried different servers/methods? Some sites do block a whole range of Airs servers sadly. But if you suspect it may be a honeypot, then I wonder why you'd try to connect in the first place .
-
I don't know your platform details, but do try different servers and protocols .
-
Hello! That happened to another Arch user as well I believe. It may be a Wayland issue. So you may benefit from posting in the same thread
-
Hello! I suppose you're on Linux? Are you not wanting to use the Eddie client or what? I'm not sure if the Network Manager is the best choice.
-
Hello! Have you tried different protocols OP? Would be nice to know if you're using Eddie or not and what OS you're on.
-
No worries . I can recommend that you check out Ublock Origin, if you want something perhaps more powerful. Or Adblock Edge (they block everything). The deal being that Adblock Plus perhaps colludes with the advertisers and/or allows *some* "non-intrusive" advertising - which isn't to everyones liking. Anyway, you can find all the help you need online, if it's relevant. Free adblock browser sure does sound shady lol. Have a good day

There's some Air posts. Then there's some stuff about IPv6 privacy. It's not that *I personally* believe there's issues with IPv6. It's objectively true, from a privacy standpoint . How can you say "even if" a series of issues exist, but that you don't know them yet and then go on to state there's no valid reason for turning down IPv6, when, as you said, you don't know the issues? It's much like with the PPTP protocol: Air is in fact protecting you by not providing it.
-
Hello! IPv6 has grave issues regarding privacy and I think it still has many unresolved issues. It would also be nice with 5 devices per account - but privacy and security have to come first before anything else

Sweet! Welcome to AirVPN!

Takes a big man to concede anything these days. Then I bow my virtual hat to you in return. I always found CGP Greys videos on voting quite instructive for explaining all the voting-related issues. (For people who read this comment and don't know the issues with the voting systems).

I doubt he was bashing them. It's just that if you vote 3rd party, that's a way of splitting the vote and thus it's halfway towards a vote for Trump, as it weakens Clintons positions. Clinton, horrible as she is, isn't a complete monster on climate issues; which is Chomskys main contention a lot of the time.
-
Hello! What's old is new again. Check out Noam Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent" for instance.
-
Hello! Stop the WebRTC leaks perhaps? If that's the cause. Scroll to the bottom of ipleak. You may also use browser plugins like Ublock Origin.
