  1. Does anyone have any advice/input/opinions about Proton VPN now? I've been a subscriber for several years and I'm very happy with both their email and VPN service. The VPN now features an optional Stealth feature and I'm curious to know if others have an informed evaluation. By the way, I am still a proud AirVPN subscriber and go back forth between the two VPN services. I feel very, very strongly they are the only VPN choices worth using.
  2. Does anyone have an update on Proton VPN? I’ve been using the paid version of Speedify the past year as a backup to AirVPN and am very interested in trying Proton’s VPN Plus service. I would love to get input from the most tech savvy here as to whether the cautionary anecdotes in this thread are still applicable. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.
  3. OpenVPN app has now been updated from version 1.2.5 to 1.2.6. Perhaps this fixes the disconnection issues.
  4. I was cautiously optimistic there for a bit... but it doesn’t work for me. Does anyone recommend Private Tunnel VPN or the Speedify app mentioned above?
  5. Scroll down to read the post by “seanob”. https://forums.openvpn.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=25587 It seems there may be a temporary workaround to getting a stable connection to an AirVPN server by going directly to the OpenVPN app and connecting from there. I’m tryinig it now but it’s much too soon to verify if it works.
  6. I’m still having the same problem on my 2 Apple devices, but not my iMac or Samsung tablet. I’m beginning to think Zhang may not be accurate on this by saying it’s not OpenVPN app’s fault. http://speedify.com/blog/how-to/fix-vpn-disconnect-iphone/
  7. THANK YOU! Just one more good reason to subscribe to AirVPN.
  8. Update-- I've discovered that my Samsung Galaxy Tab S and iMac Desktop DO NOT get disconnected from AirVPN; just my iPad Mini 3 and iPhone SE. The disconnections seem less frequent compared to a few days ago, but they're still happening.
  9. Zhang— Thank you for your response. I just finished talking with a customer service rep from Charter Spectrum and she assured me they have not made ANY changes in their internet service. Spectrum doesn’t interfere with the use of a vpn; has not placed any limits or restrictions on bandwidth. Supposedly, everything is exactly the way it was before net neutrality was ended. I keep my devices fully charged at all times so I’m not sure how or why iOS would send the Open VPN Connect app to sleep to save on the battery.
  10. A disturbing update..... I decided to delete the Open VPN Connect app and start from scratch. I downloaded the app again from the Apple App Store, then came here to set up the config generator. When i attempted to import the first profile an alert popped up on the screen which said: “OpenVPN” Would Like to Add VPN Configurations All network activity on this iPhone may be filtered or monitored when using VPN. Allow Don’t Allow WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??!! “FILTERED OR MONITORED”??!! Seriously...... what is this crazy shit about?! What’s the point of using the Open VPN Connect app if the network activity on my devices “may be filtered or monitored when using VPN”? Obivously I’m not very tech knowledgable as I have admitted before here in the forum. Perhaps I’m missing something that’s readily apparent to others. If so, I sure would love to know what it is. By the way...... My VPN connection keeps getting disconnected, though it hasn’t happened since I’ve been logged in here at AirVPN in the time it has taken me to post this update.
  11. NaDre— I have already noticed a few occasions of slow speeds since the end of net neutrality. My ISP is Spectrum (Charter). Maybe it was just coincidence when I noticed the slow speeds, I really don’t know. I have a bad feeling nothing good is gonna come out of the end of net neutrality rammed through by Idjit Pie. Perhpas congress will feel enough pressure to reverse the decision but I’m not counting on it. Zhang— Could you please clarify this statement? I opened a new topic in the Troubleshooting part of the forum about repeated disconnections with AirVPN.
  12. Greetings to all. It’s been awhile since I was last here. An extremely annoying and worrisome problem has popped up and I have no idea what’s going on or what to do about it. (Perhaps this is something others are starting to experience in these times of post net neutrality.) My Air VPN connection keeps dropping out after only a few minutes. It’s happening on my iPad Mini 3 and my iPhone SE. I can reconnect either to a U.S. server or to any other country and the result is the same— a disconnection after just a few minutes. (I just noticed that I’ve not had a VPN interruption in the 10 minutes or so I’ve been logged in here at Air VPN.) The strange thing is that it seems to happen mostly when I’m just web surfing. It’s almost as if my ISP (Charter/Spectrum) detects I’m using a VPN and is disconnecting me. Suggestions? Solutions? Is anyone else experiencing something similar?
  13. Update on Onion Browser for iOS: Protonmail recommended the following settings. Active Content Blocking-- "Allow All (DANGEROUS)"; Cookies-- "Block Third-Party"; User-Agent Spoofing-- "Normalized iPad (iOS Safari)"; Do Not Track (DNT) Header-- "Tell Websites Not To Track"; Minimum SSL/TLS Protocol-- "TLS 1.0+". These settings now allow me to successfully log in to my Protonmail account. But, is there reason for concern that you must set Active Content Blocking to "Allow All (DANGEROUS)"?
  14. Khariz-- Do you know if there are any TOR or TOR based browsers for iOS worth investigating?
  15. I'm not necessarily positive and optimistic by nature. Having said that, I'm not convinced this will be the humanitarian disaster some think it could be. Think about it-- If you could go back in time say, a hundred years ago, and told people in the most general terms about computers and the internet, I think it's safe to assume that most if not all would be pretty freaked out. (Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" was rooted in fear of technology and the negative use of such.) The point is that technology, and its inevitable advancement, isn't inherently a bad thing. It always comes down to the intent and purpose it's used for.
  16. victorab-- The VPN may be free for Visionary account customers to try, but the subscription fee at that level is 24 Euros a month.
  17. Just an update using TOR on my Android tablet and iOS devices. I uninstalled Orweb and Orfox for Android and then reinstalled both. Then I went to Protonmail's special TOR address through Orfox and was able to log in with no problem. However.... I still cannot log in with Onion Browser on my iOS devices. I uninstalled and then reinstalled it at least three times. The first time I changed the Onion Browser settings keksjdjdke suggested I successfully logged in. Unfortunately, that's the only time it worked; have not been able to log in again after that one time. Very frustrating. I opened a support ticket with Protonmail and we're playing ping-pong on the issue. I'll re-update at the appropriate time.
  18. Agent Smith-- Fellow Protonmail customer here, and this news does sound interesting. Don't think I'll be trying their VPN anytime soon since a Visionary account is a little rich for my blood.
  19. Keksjdjdke-- Those settings do work. However, you shouldn't have to compromise security to be able to log in. That defeats the whole purpose. Protonmail's tech/security guys really need to figure out what's going on with Onion browser for iOS.
  20. I never use Google or Bing. I use Startpage which is Google, but Startpage hides your identity from Google. DuckDuckGo is another good search engine.
  21. The TOR browser on my iMac desktop works smooth as silk with the Protonmail TOR address. However, I can NOT log in through the Onion browser for iOS nor with Orfox on my Android tablet. I will be opening a support ticket with Protonmail though I don't think it will do any good. They warned in a blog post that it may not work initially for some users. Not a big deal for me since they will need time to work out the bugs. I really like Protonmail because they seem to take customer email privacy and security more seriously than anyone else out there that I know of. It may seem a bit like overkill to some but I think this is where internet security in general is going and Protonmail is painstakingly doing everything within their power to stay ahead of any privacy/security threats to their customer base. And to me, that makes the $48 annual subscription price very much worth it.
  22. OmniNegro-- Not sure I would've put up with being "detained" for 6 hours on the suspicion that I was refusing to cough up a mobile phone I didn't even have. I think most people have heard the expression, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease". If I were in your place, I might've been........ LOUD. Whiney.... complaining in a highly irritating manner.... perhaps crying.... muttering about having a cardiac condition.... dramatically wondering why God was putting you through this trial..... making clear inference to the sh*theads that you just might be a real head case. Just be sure to stay loud in your behavior, but punctuate it with an occasional sudden dramatic drop in tone as an eerie and disturbing contrast to the loudness. My guess is that after an hour or two of that kind of behavior, they would forcibly push you out the door just so they wouldn't have to hear it anymore.
  23. Look... I don't know for a fact that the TSA morons will definitely confiscate your device if you don't provide the password. But I think it's possible, and perhaps likely. They have a ready made excuse: "We're confiscating this device in the interest of national security." Then they might say you can retrieve it at an unspecified later date and it will be totally up to you to navigate the labyrinthine bureaucracy. The chances are good that either it will be stolen by a TSA assclown or dumped in a storage room somewhere, making it impossible to locate. And believe it when I say that NO ONE will give a f*ck if you never see your device again. It is an undeniable fact about human nature that anyone with any degree of bureaucratic power over the minions will exercise that power as far as he/she can push it. We've all seen displays of this kind of shallow arrogance known as a petty power trip.
  24. They won't be able to decrypt it, but most likely they will permanently confiscate it simply out of spite.
