"Connected" but no communication possible

Recommended Posts

Good day everyone!

I need your help:

All of a sudden the VPN-connection does not work anymore.

I tried to connect to 1 german server: cannot load websites or ping via cmd.

I tried the second one: same issue.

Third one: oh, it works perfectly!

But after restarting the PC/Disconnecting&Reconnecting there is again nothing!

Strangely, Deluge client seems to get a connection, although I don't know about leaking/ if it's connecting via my ISP's DNS, as I can't test for this (via checkmytorrentip).

I'm clueless, because I cannot remember changing anything that might concern the VPN-connection.

I'm using the AirVPN-client and tried all 3 german servers and one from the netherlands; udp and tcp on ports 443 and 80. I tried "ping google.com" which gives a timeout.

Win 7 and Comodo, which I set up according to the guide.

Please respond, I don't want to waste my precious subscription days fumbling around, hoping for the client's right mood to give me a connection. When it's on, AirVPN is great, but this right now is quite annoying.

Hello!

Since Deluge does not need DNS to work, perhaps it's just a DNS issue.

Can you please send us at your convenience:

- the logs of your client taken after a connection to a VPN server is established

- the output of the following commands (from any shell, or a command prompt if you run Windows) while your system is allegedly connected to the VPN:

ipconfig /flushdns (this command is necessary only if you run Windows)

ping google.com

ping 10.4.0.1

ping 8.8.8.8

Kind regards

Right now it works without me changing anything at all.

Websites are loading normally, AirVPN-speedtest however is not.

Hello!

So, if we understand it correctly, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. In this case, it's a symptom of some TCP/IP stack problem (and perhaps also Winsock problem), further suggested by that very suspicious "General failure" error in the ping output in your previous message.

If the problems persists, it is usually fixed by a TCP/IP and Winsock reset followed by a system reboot, please see here:

You understand correctly!

I tried fixing as you said, but the issue remains: no connection.

Edit: After waiting for about 35 minutes the vpn-connection works, again without me changing anything regarding openvpn, comodo etc.

Dear staff,

the problem has not been resolved yet.

Everytime I connect, I have to wait at least 10 minutes until I can access a website.

I also experience a slow speed, e.g. youtube has to buffer for a really long time.

As I cannot run the speedtest in my client area, I ran one on speedtest.net

PING: 40ms D:10.33 Mbps U:1.85 Mbps

Is this an average speed?

Downloads from different websites are often unbearably slow (~50kb/s).

If this is the price for anonymity and safety, so be it, but I'd like to know if it's not somehow connected to my setup's issue with the VPN-connection.

Please help.

I am having this same issue SUDDENLY too, although I also had an issue coming back over the border to USA and being detained for 5 hours. I am suspicious because it worked perfectly for months, but now does not. I have also had my computer hacked, even though I do nothing ILLEGAl it appears someone wants my communication kept free from being able to use a VPN. I am waiting to hear back from tech support too, this happens to me no matter what OS I utilize.

Bump,

staff, please help.

The issue remains and I'd like to know what the problem is!

This is not the service I paid for.

Hello,

we have never detected any problem for your connections on our side. Even now, your account has been connected without interruptions for 1h 35m and exchanged so far GigaBytes of data.

The other problem you refer to (connection working after 35 minutes since the initial run of OpenVPN) suggests system deep problems on your side about which we are not in the position to say anything specific. We would anyway recommend that you check for malware and reset Winsock and TCP/IP stack (please see https://airvpn.org/topic/8320-solved-connects-but-ip-doesnt-change-on-windows-server-essentials-2012/?do=findComment&comment=8321).

Thank you for replying.

It is true, once connected there are no interruptions and data transfer is possible, if slow, at least when downloading via http/website (e.g. youtube).

The second problem is the much more annoying one (connection working after 35mins). As you advised in a previous post I already did the Winsock and TCP/IP stack reset and I also check for malware regulary using Spybot S&D, malwarebytes and avast antivirus.

Hello!

Can you please send out the output of the commands (issued in a command prompt):

route print

ipconfig /all

1) before a VPN connection is tried

2) after the VPN connection is established but before it works (the "35 minutes" time frame)

3) when everything works (VPN connections established and working after the "35 minutes")

Kind regards
