New Speed Test available

Hello!

 

The old internal speed test (Speed Test Mini) has several issues: it is a closed source 3rd party application, it requires Flash and its reliability when used with high bandwidth line is extremely poor.

 

A new speed test has been implemented in order to overcome the aforementioned limitations.

 

It has been entirely developed by us, it provides customizations to make tests more reliable, it does not require Flash and importantly it performs tests outside and inside the tunnel.  The idea behind this last feature is to measure the performance difference inside the tunnel, in order to have hints on bottlenecks (if any) which may be caused by your ISP (through traffic shaping, for example) or by various factors, such as packet inspection tools, Internet "security suites" and CPU power.

 

Be aware that it's still in an experimental stage, so your feedback will be very welcome.

In order to use it, you need to log in the web site with the same account and the same device that is connected to one of our VPN servers.

I am more than happy with my up/download speeds but in this test it seemed like i got about half of what i actually get with DL and about 20% less than normal with UL

Thank you very much for your feedback, this is exactly what we need. Additionally, can you please post the parameters you have used (manually or automatically) for the test, if you can? Just copy and paste the text that appears on the lower box when the test(s) is/are over.

Yea, I've no idea why my downstream is so slow--I'm on a 1Gbit fiber line that runs quickly sans VPN.  I'm not blaming it on Air as I've tried nearly all the servers with various ports and protocols to the same result.  I stick now to the server with the best ping (Puppis) and my uploads are surprisingly fast so it's not all bad.

If i leave the settings to detect it works but if i change the settings i get an error but the speed test is good overall compared to other options.

Hi, i recently switched to Linux Mint (First time linux user) from Windows 7.

 

I have reconfigured my AirVPN account to work on Linux after many hours of trying to get it to work correctly.

 

I used the http://ipleak.net/  website to ensure i was using the Airvpn service and everything appeared to be working normally. 

 

However i have just tried the new AirVPN speed test and it is not detecting my DL/UP speed at all.

 

Is there something wrong with my AirVPN config?  BTW when will you have a client for Linux?

When I run it all I get is error's saying NaN. I've tried detect and setting to 10MB buffer and same error either way. I ran test from Andromedae 443

The cause is normally this:

because the test is in an https page, but the test itself transfers the randomly generated files for download and upload in http.

i'm on optic fiber ( sdsl) and speed loss is negligable.

 

but why that upspeed of four times the down speed, is that a bug?

 

it keeps happening with every test so it wasn't just the one time.

Using other speed tests, I get 16Mb - 18Mb down speed in and out of tunnel. Up speeds are same either way.

I am on a cable Internet connection and I tested early in the morning, when I would expect to have maximum bandwidth and the DL and UL speeds are very close to the maximum I ever achieve. I shall have to re-test in the late afternoon and evening when traffic on the network is much heavier.

 

But these speeds, for my area, are very good.!

Hm, this is really interesting, just got VDSL today, have an actual down speed of 52Mb without VPN and up of about 5, with AIR on I have the following, does appear to be a bit much?

I think that the answer to that question will be to pick one that is geographically closest to where you are. There is a ping table found in the status section that will also tell you this information.

 

After that (finding the right region) it will be a matter of accessing them and do a simple speed test  I guess.

Thanks for this- since I upgraded my keys and certificates I thought there might have been a problem with the VPN connection, but it's just my back-country broadband which is noticeably worse than ever. We've been told we'll never get cable here so this is as good as it gets

Hi - I'm new to vpn and am trying to get this set up.  I don't understand why I don't have In Tunnel speeds, in fact I don't fully understand the term.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could shed some light or throw me some suggestions...?

 

(Yes I know I have to read up some more, but I've just spent days trying to configure FWs and I have read so much that i just can't read anymore, for now)

Actually, I have the same thing. I'm not alone with this, that's great!

Additionally, I can tell you that my display driver crashes when it tries to initiate the In-Tunnel Download speed test. Both tests show 0 MBit/s In-Tunnel speed. What does a display driver have in common with OpenVPN, I ask?
