Hi, I am currently experiencing massive, reproducible speed collapses since this morning (maybe longer, noticed a speed drop a few days ago already but haven't downloaded/uploaded much) across all tested AirVPN servers. The same issue is reproducible with the official Eddie app on Android and a docker container with WireGuard. I've tested multiple servers in multiple regions (Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden) with usage from below 10% and above 90%. Interestingly, the servers with higher usage usually perform better than the ones that should have all their capacity available. No matter what I try, the speeds are awfully slow. mith_y2k 6 Posted ... I was about to create a post asking about issues running hummingbird on MacOS. I haven't used it a ton in the past, but in the last couple of days my VPN has been super slow, almost unusable. I wonder if I'm not the problem tl;dr, I'm having a similar issue FWIW connecting to servers in the Americas seems to be much better than Europe I tested a couple more things. I tried using a different client (Passepartout) and I tried using WG and OVPN. Same outcome. OVPN seemed even worse Quote Share this post Link to post

For the readers and OP: @mith_y2k had a dramatic performance boost by setting WireGuard MTU to 1280 bytes (from previous 1420 bytes) and by cherry picking servers around his/her location instead of picking a generic continent and let the domain name extract the "best" server. Support team is now considering whether suggesting to add MSS clamping too, in case PMTUD is broken somewhere, but the throughput is now consistent with the "Top 100 Users Speed" so the MTU was for sure the main problem. About server selection, always consider that if you use an entire continent domain name, you are in a sub optimal situation to find the server that can provide you with the best performance. The domain name resolution takes into account important variables to resolve into the entry IP address of an healthy server, but knows absolutely nothing about your location, routing and round trip time from your node to the VPN server. Therefore, when you select an entire continent, you shrink the likelihood of finding a server that's indeed the best for throughput to/from your node. Kind regards Quote Share this post Link to post
