kinsham 1 Posted ... There is a limit of 20 forwarded ports I understand. Does the limit apply across all clients or is it 20 max per client? Can a given port number be forwarded to more than one client or must source ports be unique? Quote Share this post Link to post

One remote port, like 9000, corresponds to one local port, like 80. Once taken by an account, no other account can forward port 9000. And once forwarded to a specific device/key pair like "my server", only the device which connected with that "my server" key pair last gets forwarded traffic from port 9000 to port 80. So it's always a 1:1 relation. There is no 1:n "multipath" or even "load balancing" configuration running here. What is possible is a n:1 relation, as in, forwarding traffic on ports 9000, 9001, 9002 to local port 80 on all devices or specific devices/key pairs, as per the port forwarding config. Just keep in mind, especially if ports are forwarded for all devices/key pairs, that only the last connected device is the target. Hello! A couple of clarifications or additions. Multiple devices with the same key can connect to multiple servers and have the linked port(s) forwarded on all of those servers. You may also specify "All devices" for each port. Such port(s) is/are forwarded to all the connected devices, no matter through which key, on all servers. The limit is 5 ports per account but additional ports can be purchased (for this purpose you can open a ticket). Kind regards Quote Share this post Link to post

The server/client listening was exactly the same software in both machines, AirVPN servers were smart enough to forward data to the correct VPN Device, or probably all data was forwarded to both machines but only the data matching the device key was used/decrypted. Machine A + VPN Device A + Port 9000 Machine B + VPN Device B + Port 9000 I didn't expect to work if both machines used the same AirVPN Device unless, perhaps listening devices were not the same softwares. At what point was the port forwarding limit reduced from 20 to 5 ports per account? It's disappointing that no official announcement was made, at least none that I'm aware of. Had I known, I would have renewed my previous account (which still has the 20-port limit) instead of creating a new account this year. I'm also a bit puzzled, @Staff, as to why port pricing isn't readily available and one must "open a ticket" to find out? Quote Share this post Link to post

On July 2023 and only for new accounts, it was not retro-active. On September 2024 a more powerful system was announced https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/63545-update-remote-port-forwarding-system-expansion/ On 11/1/2025 at 4:35 AM, parnotrar said: I would have renewed my previous account (which still has the 20-port limit) instead of creating a new account this year. We don't see the point: even if you can't read the news, the home page or the FAQ, you still have your old account, so you can cut it out with the gratuitous arguments.
