uTorrent Continues Download

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I just signed up for this service, and I'm trying to prevent any DNS leaks while using a torrent client.

So, what I've done so far:

I use the batch files on dnsleaktest.com, and I've run the test many times, and each time it works - in that I only get Google servers listed as my ISP. I have also disconnected from the vpn to see that my browser can no longer display a page.

But, the problem is, this morning I came back to my computer, and I got an error message from the AirVPN client stating that the name airvpn.org could not be found (and I had been disconnected). But, when I looked at uTorrent, I was still downloading for over a period of ten minutes without the vpn connection. I then checked my browser and couldn't get a page to load, and then I even tried to ping a couple of the ip addresses that were listed in uTorrent that I was connected to, and that didn't work either.

So, I'm thinking I may switch to vuze and just use the 'bind ip' option there, if I can't fix this problem.

In addition, I tried comodo, and I'd prefer not to use it, so another option would be great if there is one.

If anyone is thinking that I have some idea of what I'm talking about when it comes to networking, please don't. Although I'd call myself tech savvy, I really don't know much about this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm new to using a VPN service, and I'm currently trying to prevent DNS leaks in uTorrent.

Although I'd say I'm tech savvy, I don't really know much about networking.

But, I've used the batch files on dnsleaktest.com, and it seems like they've been working. After running them, I don't get any leaks (according to the site, only a couple google servers are listed), and when I manually disconnect from AirVPN, I can't load a webpage or ping an external ip.

But, this morning, I came over to my computer, which I left on overnight, and I saw that the AirVPN client had an error message saying something about 'the name airvpn.org could not be found.' I looked at uTorrent, and I was still downloading some torrents for over ten minutes. I then checked my browser and saw that I still couldn't load a webpage, or ping (using cmd) any of the ip addresses that were listed in uTorrent. So, it seems like I still have a DNS leak, unless the time-averaged download speed in uTorrent is over such a long period that it only registered that I was downloading.

I should also note that I'm behind a router.

Can I somehow bind uTorrent to AirVPN using my setup, or should I just go to vuze, as it has a 'bind ip' feature.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Hello!

DNS leaks are not very relevant for a torrent client. A torrent client needs to resolve trackers names (if trackers are used), nothing else. It can perfectly work, with DHT [+PEX], without any name resolution.

So, what I've done so far:

I use the batch files on dnsleaktest.com, and I've run the test many times, and each time it works - in that I only get Google servers listed as my ISP. I have also disconnected from the vpn to see that my browser can no longer display a page.

Your Internet connectivity is not "broken", it's just that your system can't resolve names when disconnected from the VPN. So your p2p client will continue sharing. In order to allow (re)connections with the Air client, please edit your hosts file (see step 14 in our Comodo guide, even if you don't use Comodo).

Binding Vuze to the tun adapter is a perfect solution to prevent Vuze to exchange any data while your system is disconnected from the VPN.

That's not significant, peers in the swarm do not necessarily respond to a ping.

Kind regards
