Ability to upload custom wireguard key for devices

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to add the ability to create a device with custom wireguard credentials? The existing method of having the server generate credentials works fine for normal usecases, but what if you want to re-use an existing wireguard client? In addition, given airvpn provides the private key of your device in the config generator, I assume right now the private key is stored on airvpn servers. In the situation where you instead provide a public key as a device, it would be insecure to require the private key for this custom device to be stored on the airvpn server, so that would also have to be considered.

In my specific usecase, I was looking at trying to get airvpn to work with tailscale (a wireguard network orchestrator), like how they allow you to integrate mullvad nodes into your network. This however requires that the server see a specific tailscale node as a valid device, which means getting airvpn to trust the public key of the node, which is currently impossible with the current "every new device has a random key" method.
