Incredibly slow speeds on Android

Hi, I'm wondering if you guys can help me figure out what the cause of truly dreadful speeds using the Eddie app is. 

I'm running the latest stock Android on a Pixel 8. I'm using Eddie (though I tried Wireguard app too; no better), with Wireguard as VPN type (OpenVPN is of course no better anyway). 

I've tried playing around with settings, but to no avail. 

I'm in Germany, and it's awfully slow connecting to any Dutch, UK, or even German server (obviously have to allow same country connections in the latter case first). 

I'll attach a couple screenshots of how bad it is. This is using mobile data; first shot is with VPN enabled, second without. I also just did it with WiFi and it was shockingly bad – 0.45mbps down (on a 50mbps connection that often goes to 60). It is basically unusable. 

Other potentially relevant things: 
- I'm also running Adguard, though the issue stays the same even when I disable it. 
- I'm rooted.
- I've used other VPN services and not had anything like this issue before. 
- my home WiFi uses a FritzBox router (though I'm unsure if it's anything home WiFi specific, since it's awful on mobile data too).
