TikTok connect

I'm in the US and just for novelty purposes wanted to bypass the US block.   However I can't connect to TikToks webpage or use their app even after deleting the cache while on a airvpn server in Canada or Netherlands.   TOR also won't connect to the website.

Could TikTok be purposely making it difficult for political reasons?

The Washington Post is reporting this morning that a VPN will not help you if your account with TikTok was set up from the United States.

I'm not a TikTok user though, so my reading focus was not 100%. YMMV.
