ANSWERED DNS for Specific Devices

Recommended Posts

hi there,

Forgive me if this has been asked before. I'm trying to set-up a Custom DNS specifically for my work computer which I understand can be done in the VPN Devices settings. I currently have my iPhone and Computer connected to my VPN but it only has one device listed and it doesn't tell me what device it is, it just says 'Default'.

I'd like to know why there's only one device listed even when I have 2 or 3 devices connected and how to fix this so it displays all my devices in the list and I can pick the correct device to apply my Custom DNS to.

thanks :)

Did you follow these steps?

1) Go to Client Area -> Devices and set up all your different devices (these will be for your profiles)
2) If you then click on one of those profiles in the "Devices" section, there is one button "DNS"
3) You can then customize each DNS setting/filtering per devices to your liking
4) Make sure when you start Eddie (I am assuming that this is what you use to connect) that the correct profile is selected

Hi,

I have created each device. But this may sound like a dumb question so forgive me! haha but how does AirVPN know what the device is? Like If I create a 'Computer' device, thats all fine, but how do I make sure that my computer is assigned to the 'Computer' listed in my devices? If that makes sense?

Also I'm using the OpenVPN app on iOS and macOS if that makes any difference

It "knows" what the device is, because each profile you create has a unique identifier. When you use OpenVPN, I am assuming that you create a configuration file via the Config Generator in your Client section on the AirVPN site. In the Config generator you can select the profile for your device ("Choose your device / connection") which is then bound to your OpenVPN config file.

When connecting via your OpenVPN config file in OpenVPN, it uses the mapping for the correct device that you set previously.
