Another problem with Windows 8

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have another problem with W8:

I installed the latest version of OpenVPN (2.3_rc2) but all is well for a few days, then even if the client connects, the IP address is Italian. The only solution is to uninstall and reinstall OpenVPN whenever. In addition, each time the client AirVpn asks to update OpenVPN. Any suggestions? Thanks

This is the log generated:

Hello!

The TUN/TAP interface does not come up correctly.

Since some days ago you had no problems, some modification has surely been performed on your system.

Kind regards

I was experiencing intermittent issues with Windows 8 64-bit and OpenVPN.

Sometimes it would work, but most of the time it wouldn't. It would claim to connect but routing issues still occurred and things would either connect with my ISP IP or not connect at all.

The combination of things that worked for me was:

Go into Services and set the "Network Connections" service startup type from Manual to Automatic and restart it.

Also go into "Programs and Features" and "Turn Windows features on or off"

and check "RAS Connection Manager Administrative Kit (CMAK)"

I was also having "General Failure" while pinging airvpn.org and unable to connect to any airvpn.org page which meant the Air VPN client would fail to login. I was able to resolve this by disabling IPV6 on my Wireless adapter.

I hope this helps.

BTW: You can get to "Computer Management" (where Services is) and "Programs and Features" easily from the "Quick Access Menu"

The "Quick Access Menu" can be found by hitting the windows key and the x key at the same time. Also if you mouse to the lower left corner where the start preview shows up, you can right click and it will show it.

Some people online have reported that having their network adapter visible when connecting to OpenVPN, but that is likely resolved by the "Network Connections" service setting.

For the AirVPN client and Windows 8 64-bit, the above solutions work for me with the 32bit OpenVPN 2.2.2 that comes with AirVPN Client zip. There was no benefit to having 2.3.x or 64bit with this client as it only interacts with the 32bit path. You shoudl uninstall the beta and 64bit editions and reinstall the 32-bit 2.2.2.

I had been concerned it was Comodo, but it works fine with this. Also disabling Comodo did not fix my issues.
