Speed Degrades over time

Hello,

I am a new user, have been using AirVpn for a few weeks now. I have had quite a lot of issues, and I am coming here to see if this is something specific I should get support for or something general that I am doing wrong. I have a gbit connection, but after connecting the vpn, my speeds are still severely slow my biggest use is for torrents. Immediately after connecting the vpn, I was getting speeds only upto 3-4 MB/s. But, over the course of a few hours, thhe speeds have slowed down to 100-200 KB/s. Sometimes, disconnecting and reconnecting increases the speed for maybe 15 minutes, (still only upto 3-4 MB/s) but it slows down again after a while. I have tried some methods that were shown in other threads, including:

Wireguard / Openvpn - Wireguard gives higher speeds for a longer time, maybe upto 1 hour but then it slows down again. Openvpn has been more consistent, it gives a higher "average speed" or so, around 250KB/s, Wireguard keeps going up and down in terms of speeds.

Here are some speedtest results:

Maybe like 7 hours after staying connected:

Testing from tzulo (198.54.129.60)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by Tritan Internet (Wichita, KS) [1925.37 km]: 245.825 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 1.86 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed......................................................................................................
Upload: 14.88 Mbit/s
after this test, I disconnected the VPN.
Without VPN:
Testing from Verizon Fios (MY IP)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by FiberLync (Orange, VA) [135.46 km]: 52.249 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 701.83 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed......................................................................................................
Upload: 737.19 Mbit/s
Immediately after connecting to vpn:
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by Optimum Online (Oklahoma City, OK) [1898.98 km]: 163.736 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 55.50 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed......................................................................................................
Upload: 3.04 Mbit/s

about 2 minutes after connecting to vpn:

Testing from tzulo (198.54.129.60)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by Haviland Broadband (Haviland, KS) [1769.14 km]: 140.276 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 34.11 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed......................................................................................................
Upload: 94.56 Mbit/s

I did this test just now. These servers are connected via Eddie GUI, with Wireguard. The speeds are (not a lot, but still) better. Why is this connection degrading over time? is there any idea what's going wrong? any advice will be appreciated.

I tried doing the MTU thing with wireguard, but the 2.24.3 eddie client straight up dosent work. gives me some iptables error, then sits down and does nothing.
error was something like this:

Nothing in the client works, I used the appimage and the deb package for my ubuntu distro. with the same results. I reinstalled iptables and nothing changed. at this point, I am exhausted and I have no idea what is going wrong.

I have seen other people get speeds like 500 Mbps, I have seen absolutely nothing remotely close to it at all from multiple devices. highest I ever saw was about 200 Mb/s.
