Sorry for the noob question, but I'll be damned if I can find the answer...

How do I toggle the VPN service on and off? I really only want it for some P2P activities, and would rather use my ISP's much faster connection for browsing. Thanks!

This depends on your OS. Since noobs usually use Windows (or Mac) (this statement goes not necessarily in the other direction btw), try looking for the triangle in the taskbar and then look for the corresponding blue icon. From this point you will figure it out. Otherwise you could of course use the task manager or cmd (terminal), but this is less user friendly..

For mac I have no idea, sorry..

Most operating systems do not allow binding applications to specific adapters/outgoing gateways.

I will assume for now, you are running Windows.

There is a program you can use as a loader for launching particular applications like Firefox/Chrome/Thunderbird/etc and making them bind to a particular IP/address that is called ForceBindIP.

It does not always work, and should not be trusted for things with complex networking requirements.

Search my name in the forum's search for some example usages.

If you have specific IP addresses you want to not connect to the VPN with, you can use windows routing tables. Once again, you can search my nick on the forum for examples.

Linux has a few tricks that can be used, the latest is a new thing called network namespace that works like a jail shell for users and groups and binds all processes run in a particular context to bind to a specific network.

There are some other tricks you can do, such as bind route the openvpn gateway to non-default route, create a socks or similar proxy that can bind to a gateway/adapter and route your programs the proxy if they are capable.

The concepts of binding a specific application to a specific network are a little advanced on nearly every OS.

I hope I gave you some starting points, if you want to pursue your quest.

Thanks for the tips. I actually figured out a workaround, and should have posted it here, but honesty I forgot that I had posted the question.

What I did was put the .exe on my desktop, and run that to connect, then minimize that box once I am up and running. When I'm done, I just maximize the box, hit the disconnect button and close the app. Took some poking around to find that solution, but find it I did.

And you were both correct...Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
