CANNOT START EDDIE AFTER UPDATING IT

I updated from the beta to the current version of eddie on my Debian 9 64 bit system .  Now when i try to start eddie it says " Unable to obtain elevated privileges ( required ) :  Unable to start ( already exit ) "

i cannot connect to any site on the internet period even without vpn .  When I try to connect to any site it says " This site cannot be reached .  Diagnosing the problem :  DNS Address could not be found  .  DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE . "

Eddie was working great until I updated it to the current version .  Now I can't even access anything on the internet .  Any help would be greatly appreciated .  Thanks .
