Starting today all text in Eddie is shown as a bunch of zeros. Running Kubuntu 22.04 LTS for a few days with no issue until today. Had 15 Kubuntu software updates about 15 minutes prior to starting Eddie which may have something to do with it.  Purged program and reinstalled but problem remains. I'm relatively new to Linux so no idea what the issue is?

This happened before. I can't find the topic anymore for some reason. I hate not finding topics I recently saw, never know what exactly to search for…

Can you please post the relevant section of /var/log/apt/history.log where you triggered the upgrade? The file is formatted in sections such as:

Start-Date: …
Commandline: …
Install: …
End-Date: …

delimited by two newlines.

I'm quite interested in what package would break this. Another had a similar thing, with Arch, though (or Manjaro or something; I remember trying troubleshooting with some fontconfig commands).

These updates were installed about 25 mins before prior to purging eddie in the history.log. Not sure if its just coincidence with me starting eddie just after these updates but as i mentioned it was working fine the last time i used it a few days prior. In saying that there probably been a few other programs installed and uninstalled in the time between eddie last working and not, as it was a fresh install of Kubuntu 22.04 and i was trialling a few different programs. Initially working fine though.

The packages your excerpt mentions shouldn't have interfered with fonts or their rendering at all. They're just kernel upgrades, and git. Pretty sure it's a coincidence like you mentioned; a relevant package upgrade could've been done those few days prior. Unsure it'll be helpful, as there is a relatively easy "fix": Selecting a different font for the UI.

In Eddie, click the Preferences button on the bottom left.
On the left, click the second entry (it's UI).
Tick the third checkbox from the top (it's UI Main Font), then click the … button to the right.
Select a font you can read.
