New to AirVPN from ExpressVPN - Having connection problems

Recommended Posts

Hi,
Since the new updates and features with ExpressVPN, I decided to purchase this subscription to see if I get the same problems which is blocking all apps from connecting to the internet on my Galaxy A32 SG, and in using the Hotspot for my HP ENVY x360 Laptop I also not able to connect to the internet.  So both VPN's are doing this with the default settings, I'm guessing this should not be happen right?  In addition after connecting with AirVPN on Ubuntu Studio 20.04.4 LTS my connection from MX Linux 21 using Remmina is disconnected and I can't log back in.

Can anyone walk me through on how to allow local apps and network through this VPN, this would also include being able to access local resources like my pfSense, using FileZilla to connect to my Off Line data Server etc?  So in other words I want to be able to access all local resources as well as the internet on my home network using AirVPN and this would have to work as well for my Laptop when I'm out on the road.

Thanks in advance!...

You left out pretty much all info on your setup.

So, one of the clients is a mobile. Which app are you trying to use for connecting to AirVPN?

So, a laptop is another client which connects to the phone for its internet connection. Are you trying to route the laptop's traffic through the VPN connection on the phone?

I'm guessing MX Linux is the OS running on that laptop? And you connect with it to an Ubuntu which is… a third client in your local home network or something? And you connect to AirVPN with this third client (Ubuntu)? But why the mobile internet connection, then, if you seem to have a LAN? No internet?

It's already the default usually. OpenVPN itself explicitly pushes a route for the local network the connecting client is in. Only exception would be Eddie on PC, though allowing the local network is already the default if it is engaged, too.

Please clarify your setup.

So, one of the clients is a mobile. Which app are you trying to use for connecting to AirVPN?
-- Yes, mobile; firefox, rumble, rsbn, basically all the ones I normally use during travel.

So, a laptop is another client which connects to the phone for its internet connection. Are you trying to route the laptop's traffic through the VPN connection on the phone?
-- Yes, MX Linux 21, just about the same apps on my mobile I use here also, most of the time using it here because it more convenient.  When I'm out without my Laptop, then the apps are used.   I have Eddie installed  on my Laptop as well, with Eddie turned off on the mobile, it did connect to a VPN but keep failing on the IP4 scanning, so basically I could not connect through my mobile Hotspot.

-- Sorry about this one, I was referring to my Main IT Workstation (1) MX Linux, and Surveillance Camera setup (2) Ubuntu Mate with Eddie installed and connected.  When Eddie connects then (1) is disconnected and can't reconnect.

NOTE:  Both ExpressVPN and AirVPN (using Eddie) I'm not able to connect to other Workstations and Servers when connected.

Some logs would be cool to capture this failure for further analysis. In theory it shouldn't fail.

Another clarification needed: So MX Linux is connected to a CCTV setup run on Ubuntu at all times, and I'm guessing they are part of the same LAN network. If you connect the CCTV machine to AirVPN (I'm guessing, to be able to watch CCTV when you're not home), MX Linux disconnects and can't reconnect?
It all should work actually, if they're in the same network. Maybe Network Lock on the CCTV is all you need to disable.

-- I botched this one again, I mean; (1) MX Linux as my Main IT Workstation, (2) Ubuntu Mate as a Surveillance Camera setup using USB Webcams (using ZoneMinder) with Eddie installed (this one is in the garage using WiFi to connect to the Router).  When Eddie connects then (1) is disconnected and can't reconnect or when I'm connected to (2) and Eddie connects I'm disconnected.
