Rarbg trackers seem to be blocking AirVPN IPs

Recommended Posts

Hi

The webpage from RarBG is working fine from AirVPN IP's, but since a few days ago the trackers are unreacheable. I have been using AirVPN and those trackers for more than a year without issues. I have tried several servers in different countries with the same result. I have no issues with other trackers.

Here are the airvpn route analisys for several of those trackers:

https://airvpn.org/routes/?q=9.rarbg.to
https://airvpn.org/routes/?q=tracker.fatkhoala.org
https://airvpn.org/routes/?q=tracker.tallpenguin.org

Those 3 are udp trackers, all with the same results. The only http tracker gives a http code 307 error most of the time, sometimes a connection failed:

https://airvpn.org/routes/?q=tracker.trackerfix.com

Apart from a problem in their servers and the AirVPN IP's being banned because someone abused them, could there be any other reason?

From my testing, it looks like only servers hosted by M247 are being blocked. It's a shame they decided to do this, but thanks to DHT, it isn't too big of a problem. Other trackers can always be added.

I can't remember the last time I've seen this tracker actually work. Even without a VPN, it either responds with an error or times out.

By a quick websearch seems M247 is a host provider. Is M247 blocking AirVPN? Why?

The problem is that because of the private trackers, my client needs to have DHT off and it seems it can not be activated per torrent, just globally.

AirVPN leases some servers with M247. I doubt M247 is blocking RARBG, but rather RARBG is blocking connections to M247. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can check this.

What client are you using? I'm using qBittorrent and rtorrent, both automatically disable DHT when a private torrent is added.

Ok. I understand what you are saying is the probable issue. I have sent an email to rarbg, let's see if they respond.

About my client, I am using TransmissionBT. I have checked and it says it respects the private setting and disables DHT for a torrent marked as private, so I have turned DHT on as it should not activate it for the private torrents. That has made the rarbg torrents work again. I did not know about this private option. Thanks.

The situation is not ideal but it has solved the issue at least. Let's see if rarbg answers and we can access the trackers again.

I just fixed the same issue with several different torrent sites, they were working just fine a few days ago but then today, the qBittorrent client could not connect any of the trackers.

I restarted the qBittorrent several times but that didn't fix the issue like it had several times before.

I suspected my ISP decided to block my forwarding port for incoming connections (I've been using the same one for several years) so I then logged in to AirVPN, and clicked on the "Client Area" tab and then clicked on the "manage" button in the Ports section.

I then clicked on the "Request a new (forwarding) port" icon, got the new forwarding port number, and then deleted the old forwarding port number.

I then typed in the new port forwarding number in my torrent client's "Port used for incoming connections" field in the "Connections" preference pane and then clicked the "Okay" button.

The torrents then immediately began downloading.

Problem solved.

Well, they don't work for everyone as evidenced by a similar thread here:Perhaps server location and/ or using M247 hosted servers cause this issue, but it looks like Rarbg has decided to blacklist a number of vpn ip ranges. There's nothing AirVPN can do about it.
