AirVPN 2.20.0 Windows 11 x64 "Unexpected crash of elevated helper:An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine"

Recommended Posts

The exception is sure for the developers.
What I don't understand is why a complete OpenVPN config (sans keys) is in the options not at default section, many of which are actually default. Did you set the Use custom options only option in Preferences > OpenVPN directives?

Hello!

Can you also test whether Eddie 2.21.3 beta resolves the problem or not? Please see here to download latest beta version:
https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/49638-eddie-desktop-221-beta-released/

Kind regards

I successfully installed the beta build, will see if the connection randomly drops. image.thumb.png.b8de1a963f8c11e652e7c235e5aa44f4.png
I have also removed every network adapter that I do not use (except VMware) to see if that fixes it, the only two left are TAP & Eddie

I have also completely wiped the AirVPN program from my computer (including AppData and any VPN network adapter), which keeps popping up. I have no idea why this is happening.

I am going to try again on a fresh install and this time enable logging & debug logging incase it crashes again (which it probably will)

I may be wrong here but when this was happening on my PC the cure which I found on a post on these forums was to change the Eddie Elevation Services in Windows Services to Automatic from the default of Manual?.

I will try this and see if doing this fixes it or not, hopefully, it will.

if anyone can help me find the problem, that would be great. I have also created memory dumps of Eddie & OpenVPN, at the time when it showed the error

Hi, did you ever resolve the problem? I've been having the exact same symptoms, where the elevated eddie service just crashes and the loaded openvpn-process has to be manually killed before everything can start up nicely. It seems to me that the issue lies with the openvpn-binary not loading properly the first time around, but no clear solution yet.

Hello!

Do you still reproduce the problem with Eddie 2.22.0 and/or 2.22.1?

Kind regards

Hi!

Yeah, sadly this is still the case. I tried re-installing Eddie and everything OP posted before, but to no avail. In my case the crash only happens once after boot-up, after which I can start up Eddie correctly again and again until I close down my PC.

Hi,

Can I ask how you resolved the problem exactly?

I have resolved my specific issue: apparently my personal firewall was hogging one or more WFP-services, causing a deadlock when Eddie tried to access it for the first time after boot/initialize the included openvpn-executable. After resetting (note: just turn the personal firewall application on and off, so that the WFP-rules are reset) the personal & Windows-firewall, Eddie works again as expected. Do mind that I'm not OP, so I don't know how he resolved his/her issue.

I can't remember exactly but I uninstalled AirVPN completely using BCUninstaller then I installed the experimental build. I didn't see any error message since.

Error started to happen again, and I do not know what is causing it to happen. I just set Eddie-UI to open as administrator and will see if this fixes the problem.
