Single router + multiple devices => different ports?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I regularly use Eddie simultaneously on multiple devices, eg, 2 android devices and 2 PCs, going through a single router.  And so, my question is does it matter if all my connections are through the same port via Eddie, namely 443?  Or would it be better to spread them out - say 1 using 443, 1 using 41185, another 53 and so forth?  Or does it not matter at all?

(And just for clarification I have multiple Airvpn accounts so I'm not trying to run all my devices through one account.)

Thanks for any guidance.

Cheers,
Jules

It shouldn't. Some ISPs might prioritize well-known ports, like 443 since it's HTTPS, but usually it shouldn't matter at all.

Why? That's why there are five concurrent connections for each account permitted. :D

Cheers - that makes sense - much appreciated. And believe it or not, I can find myself using all 5 concurrent connections on each account...I know - too many devices! 🤣

It is noteworthy that, while restrictions are usually not imposed on port numbers, some admins do impose restrictions on protocols. UDP is sometimes severely rate-limited or blocked outright, so for these few souls OpenVPN on TCP might even perform better.
