drastic changes in latency for all servers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

this issue has been troubling me for many months, so I finally made up my mind to ask for a solution here:

On some days the latency shown in the list of servers (Eddie) starts around 12 ms for the servers in countries nearby (I'm in Europe). On other days (or even later on the same day) the latency goes up across the board and I cannot find a server with less than 200 ms.

The download speed is actually going down as well, so I don't think it's just a "wrong" list, but actually a change in the server connectivity.

Even if I reboot the PC the connections don't get any better.

Can anybody explain to me what the cause is and if any solutions exist?

FWIW: right now the best server I can find is Nashira in GB with 224 ms followed by Ogma with 230 ms.

Thanks in advance,
Greyzy

What's your location and access technology (DSL, Fiber, etc.)? Probably also ISP?
OS? Are you on wireless?

location: Germany
access: cable (TV, phone, internet) with 120 Mbit/6 Mbit
ISP: Unitymedia/Vodafone
OS: WIN 7
PC connected via LAN (not wireless, but cable to router)

BTW: a second PC (also LAN to same router) that doesn't go through AirVPN (or any other VPN) has no problem reaching the speeds of 120 Mbit/6 Mbit even when the first PC has long latencies

Ah, yes, good old Vodafone Kabel Deutschland. I've had similar experiences with them in the past and wasn't able to find a definitive cause, let alone a lasting solution. Though, it usually surfaced only when torrenting, and my d/u was 400/50 Mbit/s. :)
TCP performed better, sometimes also SSL. Can you try that?

Without having made any changes the latency today ranges from 30 ms to 150 ms for the servers that in ideal circumstances are between 10 ms and 30 ms.

Changing from TCP / 443 / 1 to UDP / 443 / 1 doesn't appear to make any difference.

Can you give me some specific settings to try that work for you?

BTW: do I need to restart EDDIE for the changes to take effect?

That settings doesn't change the latencies, it affects the performance of the connection.

No, just Save them.

As written, TCP improved things to some degree. Can't test anything now, however, as I left Vodafone for good years ago.

OK, so I'm back to my original question: why do I see such drastic changes in the latencies?

Maybe someone from AirVPN can tell me what the reasons might be and what I can do on my end to improve this?

Thanks!

Could also be the router, for what it's worth.
