Hello,

Some time ago I started having issues using UDP to connect with EDDIE. Someone on here was able to help me determine that my router was responding as if under a DDOS attack. I switched to TCP and all was well. However in the last few weeks maybe months TCP has been super slow and connectivity has just been rough. Only 1 machine in the house uses the VPN. So I've been able to kind of ignore it hoping things would get better. But really I need to try to resolve this issue.

So Anyone got an idea either
A. how to disable my routers DDOS response or
B. What could be causing an issue with TCP being so slow suddenly.

It differs from router to router. Some call it "QoS"/"Quality of Service", some "UDP flood protection", some involve the word "firewall" somewhere and others conceal it in some buzzwords difficult to understand even for tech-literate people. What router and model are you using exactly? Maybe someone here knows something.

Hm. There is one thing I think of: Operating OpenVPN over TCP introduces a phenomenon called the TCP over TCP problem for which a mechanic is responsible actually aimed at increasing reliability of TCP over problematic connections, but it backfires if you encapsulate a TCP connection inside another. I imagine this effect becomes evident after some time only, so directly after OpenVPN connects it shouldn't be there. Can you try a speedtest immediately after you connect?
This doesn't answer why it seemingly worked before, though. Maybe router and model will help with answering that part as well!?

Currently I'm using a Unifi USG. I'm checking the controller now for flood protection. I've also ran a PFsense box for a long time. I'm pretty tech savvy this just isn't my area of expertise. If I can't solve it in Unifi I'll see if I can find the options in pfsense and switch out my damn router.

Unifi USG = Unifi Security Gateway? Now there's a hint. :)
If an appliance is called that and you get problems with a protocol that is connectionless in nature, I'd point all the fingers and toes at this :D It's probably a setting in USG.
Try experimenting a bit, turn settings off and on again, especially, as written, those with "firewall", "QoS" and "flood protection" in the name.
And please report back in all cases, people from the future usually crave for specifics. :D
