How do I use AirVPN through Tor?

Recommended Posts

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to understanding networks, anonymity and security. I am considering purchasing AirVPN, as I was informed that your company in particular makes it easier to connect to a VPN through Tor, as oppose to the other way round. I've heard this is better for anonymity, so I was wondering if I could get some guidance on how to do this using your VPN?

I see a little but important problem here. You are a newbie who doesn't know your way around computer networks, anonymity and security, yet your goal requires this knowledge to know what you are doing. I do sympathize when you make it clear that you face attacks against your life now, or later if you prepare for a trip or something, and you can't leave anything regarding your usage of the internet there to chance. You will find plenty of help from everyone. In all other cases I'd advice keeping to Pareto to avoid plain paranoia – 80% of the effectiveness is achieved with just 20% of investments, such as simply setting up a VPN and follow a few simple rules about browser and OS usage/configuration to minimize traces (after all, most tracking on the internet is done against the masses, so if you fall through those nets, you're good to go). The other 80% of investments will do much less in regards to your own safety, but done right can protect you from targeted attacks should they happen.

Anyway, all the guides are in the download section, VPN over Tor is there as well. And since you are new here, and to networks, privacy and VPNs in general, take 30 minutes of your time and go through Mr. LZ1's New User guide, first link in my signature. This is long, but will clear up some frequently asked questions you might also have.

Also, welcome to AirVPN. I hope you stay regardless of VPN over Tor working or not. :)

» If you're new, take some time to read LZ1's New User Guide to AirVPN. On questions, use the search function first. On errors, search for the error message instead.

» If you choose to create a new thread, keep in mind that we don't know your setup. Give info about it. Never forget the OpenVPN logs or, for Eddie, the support file (Logs > lifebelt icon).

» The community kindly asks you to not set up Tor exit relays when connected to AirVPN. Their IP addresses are subject to restrictions and these are relayed to all users of the affected servers.

» Furthermore, I propose that your paranoia is to be destroyed. If you overdo privacy, chances are you will be unique amond the mass again.
