Staff 10014 Posted ... Hello! Consult the RIPE database too. If someone compiles a private database in which an addresses pool is assigned to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, would it be sufficient for you to believe that it is indeed assigned (and eventually used by) the Flying Spaghetti Monster? $ whois 213.152.161.30 % This is the RIPE Database query service. % The objects are in RPSL format. % % The RIPE Database is subject to Terms and Conditions. % See http://www.ripe.net/db/support/db-terms-conditions.pdf % Note: this output has been filtered. % To receive output for a database update, use the "-B" flag. % Information related to '213.152.161.0 - 213.152.161.184' % Abuse contact for '213.152.161.0 - 213.152.161.184' is 'abuse@global-layer.com' inetnum: 213.152.161.0 - 213.152.161.184 netname: NL-AIR descr: AirVPN.org country: NL descr: **************************************************** descr: Alblasserdam datacenter descr: AirVPN IP Space descr: NL, Europe descr: **************************************************** --- cut --- Kind regards 1 nexsteppe reacted to this Quote Share this post Link to post

go558a83nk 364 Posted ... Just for clarity, here's the same service giving info on the correct IP.https://dnslytics.com/ip/213.152.161.30 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dawind 4 Posted ... A simple Google search would have told you what the 30.161.152.213.in-addr.arpa means. Quote For example, to do a reverse lookup of the IP address 8.8.4.4 the PTR record for the domain name 4.4.8.8.in-addr.arpa would be looked up, and found to point to google-public-dns-b.google.com. If the A record for google-public-dns-b.google.com in turn pointed back to 8.8.4.4 then it would be said to be forward-confirmed. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_DNS_lookup#IPv4_reverse_resolution In other words, .in-addr.arpa are used for reverse DNS and the IP octets are "reversed". For some reason AirVPN has configured the reverse DNS (hostname on whatismyipaddress.com) to be 30.161.152.213.in-addr.arpa, instead of server.airservers.org, which would make it forward-confirmed reverse DNS. Mystery solved and Flying Spaghetti Monster wasn't the culprit. 😉 Quote Share this post Link to post
SurprisedItWorks 49 Posted ... Don't forget that before the internet was the internet, it was the arpanet, as the original development was funded by Arpa, a part of the US DoD that eventually became Darpa. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.arpa or any number of other discussions online. Quote Share this post Link to post

Could this be the reason? https://www.markturner.net/2011/11/09/dod-ip-mystery-solved/ I think I see the issue: You are looking up the IP address "30.161.152.213" which is not an AirVPN IP, it is the reverse DNS lookup of an AirVPN IP "213.152.161.30". The hostname "30.161.152.213.in-addr.arpa" relates to the AirVPN IP "213.152.161.30 ", with its octets reversed. The IP address 30.161.152.213 is not associated with AirVPN in any way Quote Share this post Link to post
tranquivox69 27 Posted ... Thanks to everybody for clarifying. As I wrote in the post I wasn't really worried, merely curious. Pardon my ignorance, anyway. Quote Share this post Link to post
