Cannot reproduce, and Check Routes supports my observation.
There are other servers who cannot reach it, though.

i've been connected since 11/23.  to that server

any device using that tunnel using FF private window does not display the site.

i'd rather not reconnect/ reconnect the tunnel unless i have to

Almost seems like it's an issue with your setup, then, if it only stops working in private windows.
Private windows enforce a few things by default, for Firefox 68+ for example it's the highest setting for the tracker blocker, among a few other things. Do check with the Firefox documentation for your version to see what else is changed, or simply don't use private windows but delete history by clearing it on close.
