Arch Linux Forums banned one AirVPN server, is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

When I tried to go to arch linux forum ("https://bbs.archlinux.org/"), from "Kocab, Netherlands" server I got following message.

Info

You are banned from this forum. The administrator or moderator that banned you left the following message:

This IP address is used by self proclaimed pedophiles

Please direct any inquiries to the forum administrator at forum@archlinux.org.

Is this normal for VPNs? I changed server and then it worked like normal.

It is completely normal. When a computer is connected to the VPN server, the computer is using the VPN server's IP address as a public IP. If 10,000 computers is connected to the same VPN server (for example Titawin - Canada), those 10,000 computers are using the same VPN server's IP address as their public IP. Unfortunately, it a double-edged sword because those nefarious people will use the VPN to spam the forums or other reasons and the forums will lead it to IP ban/Block IP ban. Just switch to a different server then it should work just fine.
