Eddie on Windows XP

Recommended Posts

Yes, i know, I shouldn't be using XP. But in my case I can't - having installed Eddie, trying to run the client prompts a 'can't do that notice':

Unable to load DLL 'Lib.Platfrom.Windows.Native.dll.' ...

All help gratefully accepted

Did you use the XP installer of Eddie? And is the .NET framework up-to-date? .NET 4.0.3 is the latest.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I'm using the Eddie XP installer (and yes, it's XP SP3). I've now installed .Net 4.0.3, uninstalled Eddie, restarted, installed Eddie and see the same notice:

Unable to load DLL 'Lib.Platfrom.Windows.Native.dll.' The specified procedure could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007F)

Thanks again for help

Hm. There are some users with a similar thing but on Linux, missing lib.patform.native.linux.so instead. Some fixed it by checking whether the working directory is set correctly.

On Windows, you're the first with this on here. Hm.

That doesn't sound too promising. I've now installed Eddie on a W10 machine and am very impressed. It would be great, though, if XP was also usable. If anyone can look into this further that would be much appreciated.

Thanks again.

The last version of Eddie for XP that will actually run under XP is 2.12.4, which mostly still works.   It seems to be no longer available from the download section however.

Lib.Platform.Windows.Native.dll can't be used because it is in fact for Vista+.  If you check the PE header it shows operating version 6.0 which is Vista (XP is 5.1) and if you run it through dependency walker you will see a number errors relating to things that first appear in Vista.

To quote the download site:

Older versions are not available anymore for security reasons

The very last version available for download is 2.13.6.

You're mixing up vanilla OpenVPN with Eddie » https://airvpn.org/windows/ > Other versions.

I'd argue a very different approach, to you and to future readers:

STOP USING WINDOWS XP. STOP ASKING FOR XP SUPPORT.

Migrate to Windows 8+ or Linux, like right now!
