Is it safe to use torrent without antivirus?

Recently, when I use torrent with VPN active, Eddie is crashing after some time and it says Disconnecting endlessly. I have tested various torrent clients, always with the same results. When this happens, I can't disable Eddie normally and the only way to do it's from Task Manager. Since I don't know what the cause of the problem is, I would like to disable my anvitirus software for a few hours while torrenting, to take a test.

Is it safe to torrenting without antivirus, only with VPN active? To take the test, I need to disable it only during download. Sorry if my English is not good.

Make exceptions for Eddie and all binaries in its directory, especially openvpn.exe. But generally, yes, it's safe.

Depends what you download and
especially where from.
Antiviruses are not a replacement for
common sense.

Generally, avoid opening any non 
media file, no matter how much the
source seems to be trusted.

Avoid cracked Windows apps as well,
those has zero confidence and you
will never be able to verify that what 
you actually downloaded is malware
free. For everything questionable use
virustotal.com, 50 anti-virus engines
are better than 1 installed.

I've already added the entire folder to exceptions, with same results. Logs says "Signal SIGTERM" endlessly.

Disable it completely and try again.
