Viscosity settings

Recommended Posts

Ok, I sort of new to all this VPN stuff and have some questions about Viscosity settings, I attached several screenshots of my settings, maybe you can help me.

1) Under general I have choosen tun instead of tan, because tan won't work. I thought OpenVPN itself worked with tan or didn't it?

2) Under Logins I have to choose Username/Password or it won't work, I imported the air.ovpn file and the ca.cert is shown with icon, the user.cert and user.key are not shown with icon, any advice?

3) The Network and Options dialog are confusing. What can I change here to get the best perfomance/privacy settings?

4) Under Advanced I added the DNSleaktest.com .vbs files, so far so good. But the additional parameters are somehow fishy. The last entry is something that came with my first imported serverprofile, the other servers didn't have the last line, I added it manually to every serversetting. Is it save to delete the last line?

Hello!

OpenVPN supports routed and bridged networks. Our VPN works in "tun mode" (routed). "tap mode" (not tan) is for bridged mode.

From the screenshots it is visible a "key.key" as key, if your key is user.key (our generator by default call it user.key), please change it accordingly.

Kind regards

I managed it to get connection without username/password. I had the correct cert/key file (I thought I had it. Well. found out that Viscosity changed it.).

Tun is ok for me. I deleted the node-device entry in the additional parameters without any problems.

The Options and Network tab are still a misterious to me. I read through the developer forums over at the Viscosity site, but got no clue how or what I have to set there to get some advantages with AirVPN.

Any tipps from our wise gurus over at AirVPN? ^^

hi trininja,

This is some notes I posted in viscosity forums for DNS setup (The heading there is: "No DNS resolution when importing tunnelblick configuration" - I didn't post a link because all links are redirected to the main forum page, and not the topic)

Doing this will import the DNS settings from AirVPN each time you connect:

- No DNS or Search Domain entries in MAcOSX system prefs.

- In Viscosity/Preferences/Advanced/DNS; Apply DNS Simultaneously - unchecked.

- For each specific server listed in Viscosity/Connections/ ...the box for "Enable DNS support" on the Networking tab checked, with the "DNS servers" and "Domains" fields blank.

To not have files renamed causing the error you originally had:

- In Preferences/Advanced, under the OPENVPN setting, check the box for keeping the original certificate/keynames on import

If you want to use alternate DNS and domains, put the addresses/domains in the applicable boxes on the Networking tab of each of the servers you are using. Here are the ones I use which are the German and Swiss privacyfoundation servers.

62.141.58.13, 94.75.228.29, 87.118.100.175, 87.118.104.203, 87.118.109.2, 62.75.219.7

privacyfoundation.de, privacybox.de

And on that same tab, you probably want to check the box to send all traffic over the VPN connection.

I hope that helps, don't hesitate to ask if you need more help with viscosity

Regards,

jz
